Advantage Floor Care

We are new to Ottawa and were so happy to have found Advantage Flooring to install new floors in our condo. From the beginning to the end, Jay was incredibly quick and helpful when it came to responding to our emails and concerns. Throughout the process, we greatly appreciated his honesty, enthusiasm, and professionalism. Furthermore, his team is amazing; they were on time, personable, hardworking, and extremely skilled. The installation of our floors went smoothly, and we’re beyond thrilled with the results. The new floors look beautiful!

Overall, our experience with Jay and his team was an absolute pleasure. We would highly recommend Advantage Flooring and would not hesitate to work with them again!

I needed my birch hardwood floors refinished and the floors turned out better than I could have imagined. I actually like the new floors better than the old one! The guy would refinished them was professional and punctual.

I just had my Cherry wood floors redone in the kitchen, living and dining rooms. The experience from arranging for a visit to review and provide a quote, to the finished product was nothing short of professional all around. Jay was a pleasure to deal with, easy to contact and stay in touch with, and the gentlemen who did the job were thorough, focused, and extremely efficient. With these guys, it's quality over quantity. I have another job to get the stairs refinished, and to have hardwood flooring installed in 2 other areas, and i'll definitely call Advantage for the task. Well done!

Jay and his team were amazing. They really took care of the every detail of the work. I was super please with everything they did. We had old 60 year old strip oak hardwood floors that were really worn down and in horrible condition....after just 2 days the dust settle and our floors looked new again. They are really great !! Happy to recommend Advantage Flooring to all our neighbors and friends :)

We had a poor experience. First of all, Jay (Advantage Flooring) is a broker. You're better off finding a company that does the actual work themselves.

A careless job was done, which they had to come back and fix. They actually went around the appliances without moving them leaving an inch of previously stained floor peeking out around everything. Overall, the job they did was OK - but after a few days with the floors, we noticed:

1. a broken transition between the dining room and kitchen
2. a broken intake floor grate
3. a sanded wire to our alarm system (making it unusable)

Jay was reluctant to take any responsibility, eventually only offering $50 off our bill to get the transition fixed (ourselves).

The only attention to detail thru the whole process was ensuring we got our invoice and making sure he got paid.

Regarding their Customer Lobby reviews - they're managed by Advantage Flooring - they decide which reviews go up. I'd say this company misleads people a bit, which seems to be reflected by another reviewer here.

Jay was great and we liked his team led by Jimmy. They worked hard and were anxious to please us. He also got us movers and cleaners after - all good workers. I was pleased that Jay realized we wanted to preserve and protect our sixty year old floors- we weren't looking for perfect - we were looking for a warm glow and a good job. That's exactly what we got. Thanks.

This was a very difficult experience. We trusted J.(owner) to advise us and refinish and install flooring. We had read excellent reviews on Google Reviews and Customer Lobby.
Our first impression was good. He came to our home and discussed options with Jay and our designer. He seemed honest and responsive. We agreed to a water based finish and to install the cork flooring in our basement.
However when the work started Jay was never to be seen. In the work crew only one person spoke English and he did not seem to have up to date information about what had been agreed upon. I confirmed that the finish would be water based and the foreperson agreed. Then the finish started and it smelled very bad/powerful. We had no experience and thought this was normal. We understood that they would be back later that day to do a second coat. But it did not dry. And they said they would not come back until the next day. The reason they said that the floor was not drying more quickly was because we did not leave our window open (in early September 2012, was 90-100% humidity).
Then on the next day when I again inquired about the finish the foreperson said that they had put an oil finish on and that the second coat would have to oil as well.
When I called Jay he said that they had made a mistake and if we likely they could re-sand our floor and use water based finish. We decided instead to leave the floors was they were.
We then continued with getting our basement flooring installed. We thought the first instance had been an honest mistake.
The installer showed up an hour late. And when he did show up he did not know what was to be done (although this had been clearly outlined in emails with J.). He did not have the needed supplies. This made us very nervous. And the installer said he had never worked with Jay before - and it had not been clear what he was expected to do. He also had only limited experience installing cork flooring. We then asked this individual to leave. Jay was very angry with us saying that it was our fault that he had to pay his sub-contractor.
Jay was reluctant to reduce our bill. I had to call other contractors to find out what normal rates were for refinishing our floor. It was only after I quoted him three estimates that he agreed to reduce his initial bill. He reduced to the average cost of the estimates I had gathered.
During the course of this difficulty Jay stated that we were very poor communicators and that is why we were having this difficulty.
In looking into J.'s business - it seems that it is listed under different names and websites. Another name found was "Advantage Floor Care."

We had our hardwood floors refinished using the sandless refinishing option a couple of years ago. We have a couple of spots where the original finish was beginning to wear in high traffic areas, and while the wear is still slightly visible the sandless refinishing did diminish there appearance, the rest of the floor looked great and has provided a protection from further wear, without the cost and hassle of full sanding and refinishing.

Advantage set our expectations for this appropriately prior to the job compared to a full sanding and refinishing, and we were very happy with the Advantage team that did the work.
