Worst experience with a contractor ever. Once they got our money, everything went downhill. Timelines were routinely not respected, communication came in text messages only, calls were not returned and by the end of it we paid Jay to get lost so that we could get the job done properly. The estimate wasn't cheap and we were definitely taken for a ride by this company.

We've had a very pleasant experience with Advantage Flooring from day one when we contacted them for an estimate. Always responded timely and professionally, even though that was during their busiest time of the year. The hardwood was delivered on time, the installation started as promised and the crew managed to do all the work in 3 days instead of 4 as it was originally estimated. All work was done with professionalism and high quality and they even accommodated an extra request from us, which was another half day of work. We hired Advantage Flooring to refinish our floors in July, 2019. The price was fair and they had good reviews online so we accepted a contract expecting everything to go smoothly. They provided us a quote about 10 days before we moved in and said the job could realistically be completed before we moved in. The job ended up being completed more than 3 weeks later leaving us without access to our living room or dinning room. The first few days before we moved in were lost due to scheduling issues on the contractor’s side.
Things got worse once I started dealing with the owner Jay. He would tell me that he had a crew coming in and give me a 3 hour window the night before, which was reasonable. They did not show up at least 3 times and many times they would show up very late and only do some of the work. The first guy who was sanding the floors actually quit mid job due to some issues with the owner. I spent so much time at working coordinating between the workers at my house and Jay who were never on the same page. My wife would leave the house every time work was supposed to be done with our baby to avoid fumes and sanding. Little progress had been made.

Finally we had a professional guy show up to our house towards the end of the job. He came on time and was very courteous. He was going to finish the sanding and apply 2 coats to the floor, with a final coat the next day. Unfortunately, as he even admitted, he had never used the type of coating for our floor (matte clear finish) and was unsure of how to apply it.

Honestly, if the floors looked good after all this, I would be able to get over the inconvenience of the whole experience. Unfortunately, it looks like it was done by amateurs. I don’t know if not enough product was applied or it was how it was applied, but you can see a glare in the light that shows it was not fully covered. The final results were very disappointing. The workers also scratched our freshly painted walls which I had to repaint and did not cover our vents before sanding.
We actually had an electrician come in our house and recommend a professional to redo our floors a week after they were done. My wife and I have completed most of the renovations for our fixer upper ourselves, surprisingly pretty successfully, without much past experience. I really regret spending $1,500 for this job as I feel I could have got better end results and saved myself this terrible experience.

Avoid Advantage Flooring at all costs.

Dog really scratched up the hardwood over the last 8 years. Jay and his crew came out and the floors look amazing. Happy with the work and the price. Would have them totally again

Everything was explained beforehand. A detailed quote was prepared and posted online so there is no hidden costs or add-ons.
There was a mix of work that included:
- refinishing old existing wood flooring
- replacing tile in hallways and kitchen with new hardwood flooring that must match existing flooring
- new staircase to match the flooring
Jay, Ron, Dave, and the rest of the team did a fantastic job meeting all our requirements.
Any issues (colour mixing, imperfections, etc) were addressed immediately and without compromises.
I was especially pleased with the work ethic and the respect they showed to our house. Both thumbs up!

Advantage Flooring came in and gave us a very reasonable price on new flooring for our home in the Glebe. They leveled the floor, supplied unfinished oak hardwood flooring and finished them with a waterbased finish. They look amazing! The job was done on time and we are super happy with them. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone wanting a good job.

After more than 30 years in our home, we decided to remove the wall-to-wall carpet and refinish the original 65 year old oak flooring in the living and dining rooms. Jay and the crew from Advantage were fantastic from estimating the scope of the work, the removal of furniture and carpet, the sanding, staining and finishing of the floors. The floors look fantastic. Jay and all of the people who worked on this project were professional, courteous and knowledgeable. They worked with us and accommodated our requests. They were a pleasure to work with and we have no hesitation in recommending them.
