Thank you both for the positive review. We do work hard at making our clients happy. We believe the client should have a good experience each and every time they call for our help. From the first time someone phones us to schedule the appointment - until the work is completed, your experience should be a pleasant one . It is clients like you that make us love what we do. Please forgive for the late reply, as I am new at this social media, and I have some catching up to do. Thanks again.

repairs to lamp ballast and installation of GFI outlet

We found Captain Electric in the Yellow Pages and after an introductory conversation with Bob we were certain that we had made a good choice. When Enrico arrived (called in advance and arrived precisely on-time), he spent 15 minutes providing my wife and I with
background information on his company and on electrical work in general. We found this information to be of considerable help and it only enhanced our opinion of Captain Electric. Well, Enrico went about his work in a highly professional manner and completed the repairs expeditiously. He made sure to wear slippers and to clean up any waste material. He even left us with spare bulbs and he removed the old ones for deposition at the recyling depot. Enrico went out of his way to answer our concerns. He developed the bill and went through it with us and left us with additional reading material with respect to electrical and fire safety. We were most impressed by his work, his willingness to assist, and with his equipment (including his brand-new truck - I always believe that you can judge the quality of a tradesman by the vehicle he drives up in). My wife and I are so pleased with the work and pricing of Enrico and Captain Electric that we would highly recommend them to anyone who needs electrical repairs. Many thanks to Enrico, Bob, and Captain Electric.

Malcolm, thank you for your positive comments, we really appreciate your post. The "slippers" as you call them are to protect your floor from any outside dirt we may bring into your home. WSIB requires that we do wear CSA approved footwear to protect our workers, and the indoors shoe covers work very well to protect our clients homes (thanks for noticing). Sorry for such a late reply. Thank you again - and we look forward to serving you again for any electrical needs.

Total aluminum wire rejuvenation and additional outlets

Everything about this company screams professional - they are thorough, courteous and willing to explain fully to the non-electric types (aka me). They were on time, on budget and did the entire job in a manner that was far superior to any other company I have dealt with in recent history. Their pricing is fair, their work ethic superb, their attitude and professionalism excellent. They made sure I knew why each piece of work needed to be done, answered every question I had, got the proper permits and inspections, made sure I was without power for the shortest period of time possible and because I am a medically disabled senior, ensured that all necessary medical equipment had power at all times. They cleaned up after themselves, returned furniture to it's proper place, removed all garbage and overall made the entire experience as pleasant and painless as possible.

I have already recommended their services to several people and will continue to do so. Should I ever need any electrical work done again, Captain Electric will be my first and only call. Top notch service from start to finish!

rewire entire house

Nov. 3, 2010

In 2009 we had our 60 year old house entirely rewired by Captain Electric. We were traumatized at first when we realized the cost for the entire job, but it was in line with other prices we had received. Captain Electric gave us all the details necessary for us to chose what was the most cost effective way of bringing our home not only up to code, but much safer. They were very clean and careful doing the rewire and most importantly, they did not leave us with a nightmare of holes in walls and ceilings that required another contractor to come in after them and put our house back together again. They got all the right work permits, the inspections by the authorities went smoothly, and the job was “done right” as the saying goes.

A month ago Captain Electric came back to do our first annual inspection. We did not have any problems with the work that Captain Electric had done but we had just started having problems with two separate pieces of equipment that were installed at the time of the rewire. The inspection turned up defects that had developed in these two pieces of equipment. These items have now been replaced, the new items are working just great and we are once again safe ‘electronically speaking’.

Both experiences with Captain Electric have been incredibly easy. The three electricians that we had doing the job, their apprentice and the support staff are very pleasant, very informative, very helpful and very cooperative. They asked questions to determine what was best for us before they did the work and they went out of their way to explain what they were doing, why they were doing it and what it meant to us as home owners. It is an attitude that we have not experienced with other trade people.

They have restored our faith in competent and honest contractors. We would definitely recommend this company and its staff.

install a stove fan 2 GIF's- Aluminum rejuvination

They came in to put wires to attach my fan for the stove orginally, cause there was no previous wires- this was $500. Then i asked them to fix 2 GFI's in the washrooms $250. So almost $800 for 1 hour of work. They were very kind and clean. I don't know if they over charged or what cause i have no comparison. Then i asked how much for Wire rejuvination ( i have aluminum wiring). THIS was my big mistake. They quoted me $4500 so cage all the recepticales and lights make sure everything is rated for aluminum. I agreed. Didn't hear from them for a week after i gave them a $1000 deposit. Finally i had issues and ran out of home improvement money. They kinda pushed me into buying this a little.. I'm naive and in my first home. Anyways i called to cancell since no arrangement had been made in over a week. They said they had made teh arrangement with my mother ( who never told me anything) but HELLO I"m paying the $5000 bill!. Anyways they told me i will lose some money cause they have incured some cost got very defensive on the phone with me, couldn't explain what cost they incured. they said they would call me back the next day to tell me how much of the deposit i'm getting back. NO CALL. and now i'm waiting to hear back So i'll let you know how this finishes. I'm ok with the orginal work, but feel very upset with the way they dealt with the rest of this . We'll see what they do that would tell me if i EVER go back to these guys again.

Chantal, you mentioned that you were okay with the original work, although price seemed to be an issue. Our intention is to make every client a happy client. We will address these issues.

It is important to clarify some key points. Your appointment was scheduled for arrival between 6 pm and 8 pm. Our Electrician and an apprentice arrived on site at 6:20 pm and left at 9:00 pm. This is 2 hours and 40 minutes, not the 1 hour that you stated. Total cost for the work (new wiring and installation of the range hood, replacing 2 GFCI Receptacles, and remaking the connections with approved wire connectors at these 2 locations, and including an ESA Permit, and also included replacing another receptacle at no cost) was $704 before taxes. This is in line with what any professional service company would charge for this work.

Chantal, you did have concerns about the Aluminum Wiring in your home, and did spend time speaking with our Customer Service Associate regarding the Aluminum Wiring. We often recommend “Aluminum Wiring Rejuvenation” (or restoration) as an acceptable and more economical alternative to rewiring the home with copper. This work is extensive and thorough, as every switch and receptacle in the home is replaced with Aluminum Rated Devices and all connections are remade; every light fixture, ceiling fan and exhaust fan is removed, and all connections remade properly with approved connectors and anti-oxidant compound; every junction box is opened and all connections are remade. All of this was explained clearly to you, by both customer service and the on-site Electrician. We want our clients to be educated and make an informed decision for any work that we do for them. We do not push our customers into making decisions. Our job notes indicate that our Electrician offered you a chance to review the proposal with your husband, but you declined, and agreed to proceed with the work. It seems that there were some other issues with your new home and “you ran out of home improvement money.” That is understandable, as there are often surprises when buying an older home.

Regarding not hearing from us for a week, we did in fact clearly communicate that the product is special order and would take approximately 1 week, but we did not contact you needlessly on a daily basis. We called the phone number provided, asked for you and were told by your mom that you were at the new house. But she said that she would pass on the message to you. The date and Start Time were set for July 23rd at 8 am. Your mom said “if Chantal cannot be there, then I will be.”

In response to the comment that we were defensive on the phone, we do not believe this to be true. Disappointed, yes, but not defensive. To be convenient for the homeowner, we always schedule a medium sized crew of 4 men for this type of work, in order to have the job completed in one day. This takes planning and scheduling, to keep our electricians productive in the field.

As far as the deposit is concerned, we did incur administrative costs related to scheduling the work, special ordering the material needed, and restocking costs - based on a signed contract to have the work performed backed up with a deposit. You did call on July 27, 2010 asking for refund of your deposit. We calculated our costs, subtracted that from the deposit and mailed a check the same day. We trust this will be to your satisfaction. If you choose to proceed with the work in the future, we will be pleased to assist you.

Electrical work - various

We needed some electrical work done at our old house before we moved out and new house when we moved in. Fortunately, neither situation was an emergency but, of course, we wanted it done right. These guys are great. Really, really great. They are very polite, prompt, open/informative, clean (booties over work shoes) and uniformed, and the pricing is up front. We will definitely use them in the future.

Electrical shorting and blown fuses.

Last night, I came out from a shower to smell wires burning. I found one outlet just outside the kitchen was sparking and smoking, so I ran downstairs and shut the power off. When I removed the outlet, one side of it was melted. The thing is, nothing was plugged into it.

I knew that if the outlet was not connected, we would be okay until the morning where I could have a better look at it.

But, when I put the power back on, half the house went out.
At this point, I was worried. I was was able to get on line and do a Google search under "Electricians/Oshawa" and found the Captain Electric site and read the reviews as well as all the certificates.

Viewing the certificates can really ease a persons mind, and this is the main reason why I chose Captain Electric.

So I called the company at 9:50am today (Saturday) and was asked to leave a messege and that I will be called back within 15 minutes if this was an emergency, and to me, it was.

Dave called back within 10 minutes and I described to him over the phone what our issues were.

I was quoted the price to come out on an emergency call and agreed to the cost.

Dave was at our house within less than 1 hour.

Before any work was done, Dave showed me all his credentials and explained in detail, but in more of layman's term of what is going to happen and confirmed the cost as agreed over the phone.

What Dave did from there was beyond exceptional. Not only did fix a few issues, he explained to me everything that was wrong with the wiring. It was like a step-by-step tutorial that brought everything to light. We've have had "electricians" in before, and never had this much information. They ("electricians") came in, fixed it and left. There were issues with our fuse box that the others should have pointed out and never did, but Dave took the time and consideration to point out these issues. For that, I'm very thankful. Dave also wore "booties" over his shoes, even though I said it was not needed. He kept them on the entire time.

Dave is a very kind gentleman that I feel truly cares about his clients. I likened him to the Mike Holmes of the electrical field. Do it right the first time, and that he did. He represented Captain Electric with flying colours, and this is why I'm writing this review.

I can't express enough of how happy and relived I am that I called Captain Electric and being able to meet and talk with Dave.

I recommend calling this company for any electrical work, and I will be calling on them again to replace a fuse panel to a breaker box.

Thank you Dave! You're a great person and electrician.

And thank you Captain Electric for keeping very high standards and having great staff.

Keith, thank you for the positive review. We believe that it is our responsibility and our duty to inform homeowners of any safety issues with their electrical system. This involves first taking the time to fully assess what the hazards are, and then taking the time to explain things thoroughly and provide any options that might be available. This way the homeowner can make an informed decision to proceed with any repairs. In regards to the reference to Mike Holmes, we see electrical disasters everyday, just like Mike does; and yes, we want to make things right (always do the right thing). Thank you again, and we look forward to being of service in the future.
