I have hired Captain Electric for 2 separate jobs. The first one was just to replace an electric panel a year ago. It was an emergency job, and they were very kind to help me with same day service.
This review is for my second time hiring them. This project was for the following: upgrading to a 200amp electrical panel, installing 4 pot lights at the front of the house, installing a metered collar transfer device (allows you to plug a generator in to power the house), wiring a brand new detached garage including an EV charger, pot lights outside, LED lights inside and 8 outlets, upgrading a washroom receptacle to be GFCI, replacing a couple of receptacles in the house. Upgrading an outdoor receptacle to be GFCI.
Diane was my main contact in the office, she is really easy to work with and helpful for scheduling.
What I really like about this company is they have enough staff to send 4-5 electricians over and be finished in less than a day, instead of one person coming everyday for a week. I had a lot of projects so mine took 2 days over 1-2 months.
I also really like how they talk to you about where you want potlights or receptacles, etc placed and explain some advantages or disadvantages of placement that you may not be aware of. The crew never rushes you.
The crew is very professional and they really know what they are doing. I ask a lot of questions and all of the electricians really take the time to explain things to you, which as a consumer I really appreciate. I also strongly believe that when you don't know a lot about a subject and someone is able to explain it to so you totally understand it that means they have a full understanding of the subject. This is exactly what happened. Zac (who was the electrician in charge of my project) really taught me A LOT about electricity.
For my second appointment, I actually had to cancel the original date and rebook it (because my trusses were delayed for my garage due to covid-and you can't wire a garage and make it live with no roof on it). Diane was really good to move things around on their end and rebook me for the following week. (I also kept her updated with what was going on at my house and advised her that this may happen well before).
Now for the unpleasant part. This company is expensive, like really expensive. If you are looking for the cheapest electrician, don't bother getting a quote from them. However, I firmly believe you pay cheap and you pay twice. You get a crew that shows up when they say they will, with neat and clean uniforms and id badges. They leave no trace that they were even there. Every job was done perfectly. Most importantly, they are all licensed electricians, and Zac produced proof of his license without me asking for it. Also, they have an excellent warranty so you are buying piece of mind. Another thing that was really nice was that Zac 'threw in' 2 little bonus pieces of work for me that came up the day of service, that would have cost me about $300-400 more. It was very kind of him to do this. In reality, it was probably $20 of parts and 15 min of labor, but that's not the point...as a customer it made me feel very good that he would do that especially when I had already agreed to pay for it...he surprised me with that when we were going over my final bill. I was very happy to save that money. It really shows their high level of customer service. Again, you get what you pay for.
I am very happy with all the projects Captain Electric completed, and will definitely use them again in the future. A big thank you to Diane, Kiera, Elise and all the ladies in the office. As well as Zac, Kevin, Bronson and Jackson (My apologies I know I have forgotten one electrician but I can't remember his name).
