Hot Water Tank Replacement

While I found Knight Plumbing to be friendly and to do a good job installing our water heater, I found out after the fact that I ended up paying a significant amount more than I would have if I would have gone with other companies. I wish I had I done my research and compared prices instead of panicking when our water heater stopped working.

Company Response

Thank you for your comments and concerns. We appreciate all feedback from our clients. Positive or negative. Knight has been serving Calgary for 47 years. We take great pride in being upfront with all our business dealings. In your comments you mentioned that we did in fact provide the price upfront with the the option to replace your tank.Pricing can vary depending on the size of the tank that needs to be replaced. This option was accepted and agreed to proceed. We do not take any advantage of our clients with surprise pricing. Our prices are upfront and agreed upon before doing any work. This is a standard practice we have been doing for countless years. As I am sure you are aware there is always "someone" who will be cheaper. We are not now or ever claiming to be the cheapest plumber in the city. We do however claim to be one of if not the Top Service Companies. I would be more than willing to do my best to work with you and try to come to a resolve if given the opportunity. Please call me directly at 403-282-1010. I will do my utmost best to help you and your concerns you mentioned. Thank you again for your review and comments. I hope to hear from you. Best Regards. Mark Coffin. Service Manager.

Hot Water Tank Replacement

Hindsight is 20/20 and I have to say I regret hiring Knight Plumbing to replace my hot water tank. Our hot water tank stopped working through the night and the next morning I had a number of appointments to go to. In a bit of a panic I called Knight Plumbing and agreed to pay the $75 fee for a technician to come out and diagnose the problem. Usually I always contact a minimum of three companies in order to compare price as I am very budget conscious, but this time I was in a time crunch and figured that this company would have competitive pricing to others. When the technician diagnosed that we should get a new hot water tank, he told me the cost of the tank was over $1800 plus the $75 call out fee, plus $82 to bring the old tank to the landfill. I was surprised at the high price but thought it must be pretty standard. I wasn't offered any other options for tanks, it was this tank for $1800. I wasn't told what features this specific water tank had to warrant that price either. (In hindsight I wish I had asked more questions instead of feeling panicked) I had difficulty contacting my husband to get his approval or give him time to think as he was extremely busy at work. So in a rush, we agreed and the tank was to be installed. In the meantime I looked on Homestars and saw that most hot water tank replacements by other companies was around $1000 to $1200, Including one by Knight Plumbing about 2 months ago where the cost was reported to be $1200. I was shocked that I had agreed to pay almost double the price of what a typical water tank replacement cost. I definitely blame myself for panicking and not doing the necessary research. When the tank was replaced, the technician asked for full payment right then and there, which added more stress as my husband didn't have time to check our funds etc... in order to make sure we could spend over $2000 on an unexpected house cost. All our experiences with other companies was that they sent us the invoice and gave us a minimum of a week to a month to make the payment. So I ended up having to pay $2000 under pressure. When you call Knight Plumbing, they ask on the phone how they can make you smile. My experience with Knight Plumbing has been one where I felt taken advantage of, was not informed, and was pressured to pay immediately. Instead of making me smile, they made me shed quite a few tears and feel sick to my stomach. My goal in this review is to take responsibility for not doing my research but also to prevent anyone else for making the mistakes that I did. I would not recommend Knight Plumbing unless you feel okay with paying double the cost for something without even knowing why.
