Action Movers Vancouver Review

I used this search engine to hire this company so it only seems fair that I write a review. First off, let me start by saying the good: the movers who come to your house are VERY friendly, personable and nice people doing honest work. They try their hardest to accommodate where they can. The not so good: I booked three people with the company but unfortunately (not the fault of the mover) one of the new movers hurt himself. I'm not sure what training they get (likely on the job) but we felt bad for him when he hurt his back. The other two pitched in where they could and advised that the company would replace the third mover but that never happened. In fact, we didn't even receive a call about an option of what to do. So, in the end myself and my husband helped out with the move (more than we planned) otherwise it would have added considerable time to our bill. The price was adjusted but realistically this does little given that you are moving at a much slower pace with two movers. And it took about 30 minutes (clock ticking) to sort out what to do with the hurt mover. Also, something I found very surprising is that the clock still runs when they are writing up the bill, so for us it added an extra 30 minutes to our bill! All other billing was appropriate. Here is my honest opinion, if you want a company that has very friendly movers who show up at your door, this is the company for you. If you prefer professional movers who move at a much faster pace and have more experience under their belt, I recommend going with another company.

What could this company do to improve their services?
This company has very strong merit, the people who work for them. They are personable and passionate about the work they do. So my advice is to build on this strength to develop training (especially for new hires) I would suggest having a back up plan for injured movers that everyone is aware of so that time is not lost on figuring out what to do. Also ongoing communication with the homeowners when things do happen is key so that everybody is included in the process and in this case, not waiting for the 3rd mover to show up when they don't. Being better prepared with what is needed for the move (ie. come by the house in advance and look at how much furniture there is so a plan can be developed on how much manpower, wrap, tape, etc. is required). These small steps will likely improve the company services. The owner seems very nice and personable on the phone and so I'm sure he is open to constructive feedback. Hope this helps!

thank you very much for the review. We always appreciate positive and constructive reviews. On your moving day, our training policy is 2 weeks of training within our office, and also small jobs to ensure our employees are trained and ready for large moves. Unfortunatly in your case, our 3rd mover did have 1 weeks training, but advised me the following day that he twisted wrong, and hurt his back. He attempted to keep working, but it was getting worse. Being month end, we generally have several employees on stand by to accomodate situations like this. We at action movers take full responsibility that we did not contact you when we could not get a 3rd mover till 2pm, but our crew that was there on site, advised the office that they had spoken with you have could handle the move as a 2 man crew. In response, please contact our office @ 604-694-7777 and i will personally go over your bill and provide an additional discount for your troubles. thank you - Mark H. owner

Hello, I would just like to compliment your company and a couple of your staff. My name is greg and you moved me on mar 30th 2012. I don't usually write letters of acknowledgment but feel these two fellows (JOHN and CARLOS) deserve some recognition for going above and beyond their required duties. I am temporarily semi-disabled with a broken back (healing). I was unable to pack much of anything, giving a very disorganized look to the move. I remember catching a fleeting look of disappointment in John's eye as he initially surveyed the job, knowing they had another move that afternoon. However as badly prepared as I was these two took it on with intelligence, planning and hard work. They patiently worked with me going through box after box, helping me determine what to and how to take these items. In summation I just can't say enough about these two. I am 53 and have moved many times but I must say these two are the BEST! Thanks again.

Thank you greg for the pleasant testimonial. End of the month is always stressful for our customers and also our movers as time is usually never on our side when moving several clients in 1 day. I have very happy to see that our movers went above and beyond what you expected, as all our movers do there best to achieve this. - cheers Mark

Huge Recommendation. When my truck rental fell through I ended up booking with you guys and not only were you able to accommodate a move on the first of the month (on short notice) you guys killed it. It took less than three hours from me still packing a box, to unpacking it in my new place. I'll never do the pizza and beer move with my buddies again, your move barely cost me more, and the difference was priceless. Thanks!

I've used Actionmovers on three different locations now. Twice for a personal move and once for a business move. All my moves are larger as we have a family of 5. On one of the personal moves they assisted me in packing up the entire house. They've never been late, never overcharged for travel time as others have and really great about their lunch breaks. What really impressed me was when i did my office move their willingness to get heavy machinery up to a second floor even though there was no elevator. There have been always 3 staff, different people but always super professional, friendly and ready to work. Based on my personal experience I will definitely recommend.

Packing, Storage and Moving of Household Goods

Action Movers packed up and moved my daughter's goods into storage and, about two weeks later, moved them out of storage, and also picked up goods at another location, with both loads moved to her new home on September 30, 2011. There were some issues with the moves themselves, however, for the most part the moves went quite smoothly (although more expensively than initially thought).

Glasses that were broken in the moves were quickly replaced. However, I did have an issue with respect to a damaged IKEA dining room table. Mark arranged to pick up the table to see if it could be repaired. My understanding was that if the table could be repaired it should be returned on or about October 15, 2011. If the table could not be repaired I would have expected there there would be some compensation provided for the loss. I heard nothing further and called on October 25 and 27 to follow up. James, who I believe is the operations manager, basically accused me of not telling the truth, suggesting that someone would have had to take a baseball bat to the table to cause this type of damage. James also said that he saw no damage to the table when it was delivered to the house. I only related to James what had transpired. I cannot account for how the damage occurred, as it only became evident once the shrink wrap was removed.

The table was not an expensive piece of furniture. I can certainly afford to give my daughter the money for a new table. However, I take great issue when someone challenges my integrity, implying that I have not told the truth to them. I reported to James exactly what happened, albeit with great difficulty, as he could not stop yelling at me.

Action Movers might be a good choice for you, as long as they don't damage anything in transit. James pointed out to me that I had not purchased additional insurance, so I guess this means that Action Movers believes it ts okay to take furniture that is in fine condition and deliver it damaged with no responsibility for this assumed on their part.

I finally hung up on James, as it became readily apparent that nothing further could be resolved between us.

thank you for your response marianne, I am sorry to hear about your conversation with James this morning. Regarding your table, it was very skeptical about how the piece was damaged and how it was done, but after our first initial conversation i was under the assumption that this was clarified and handled. because we have several locations, I have been out of office for the past 2 weeks and contacted our repair agent who imformed me the table was repaired on tuesday and if you can please contact me directly mark@amovers.com and let me know when we can drop the table off this weekend, that would be wonderful. I am sorry about the delay of the repair as he advised me they were extremely backed up when we initially dropped the table off. Action Movers includes household insurance in all of our moves. James's implication on additional isurance was for your personal home insurance as some customers get that thru there insurance agents. Action Movers prides itself in handling any claim in a timely manner - as your glasses were replaced within 72hrs of your claim. - Mark H. - General Manager
