2 Custom Storage Built ins: Shoe Cabinet and Stand Alone Closet

Davisville would not come to our home at all until we gave them a 10% deposit. They quoted the job and calculated the deposit based on measurements and photos we provided as directed by them. We paid the deposit. They then came and measured, and starting talking about "unexpected" things and other recommendations. The new final price after their visit was 30% higher than the original quote, for reasons that were vague and hard to follow. We asked a master cabinet maker for a second opinion. He quoted the job at 50% of their cost, and found a significant mistake in their drawings. They then refused to refund our deposit. We didn't go ahead with the work with them but never got our deposit back.

Company Response

Hello Emily Marrocco,

This is exactly why we ask for a retainer from clients. Also a standard practice in the industry. It is to ensure that in the unlikely event that a client does not go ahead with a project, the designer and store are compensated for the time and effort we have already put in.

In your case, it was around 5%-7% of the final price (around $600.00). It should be mentioned that we worked with Emily at length before a retainer was even asked for. Many reiterations of drawings including repricing every time, meeting in the showroom to discuss colors and door styles, Phone conversations about layouts, etc. Also, the retainer process was clearly explained to you. The paperwork you signed clearly states that the retainer is to go towards work already put into the job, also that the retainer is non-refundable.

When we went out to your place to verify measurements we found the actual space was drastically different than the measurements we were provided. Also, your husband requested several changes on site. All of which added to the cost. I personally told him during that meeting that the changes he is requesting will result in a higher overall price. (ie. building everything off the walls so as not to affect the original moldings. No problem, but this increases material as well as labor). He understood and said no problem. Which is why we were so surprised when we received your rude emails demanding your money back early in the new year. It is not a huge amount of money so normally I would just split it with you to make sure we end in good terms. But after reading your emails and then seeing your review we talked and came to the conclusion that we would do something better with the money. It has been donated to help with the Australia Fires. Best of luck with your project.

Kitchen renovation and on-going support

We continue to be extremely pleased with our 2011 kitchen renovation and the outstanding on-going support from both Jeff and Amanda. They partnered with us to create a solution that suited our needs and captured the look we wanted. In November 2018 Jeff promptly responded to a request to adjust a hinge and undertook a full review of all of the hinges and drawers to ensure their alignment after years of use. Amanda connected us with a specialist in granite counter repairs to have a small chip (don't drop pots on the edge of the sink!) expertly filled so that the repair is invisible. We highly recommend DK!

Kitchen reno

We decided to renovate our kitchen and change the layout. I wanted a big island, lots of space, gleaming counters. I knew the vision and Amanda at Davisville made it happen! She was easy to work with, helped me through the decisions to ensure a coherent look that blended modern and traditional. Everything fits like a glove. The Cambria counters and backsplash are beautiful. She made sure the appliances I chose fit snuggly. Everything ran on time. Love my new kitchen. Jeff has been great too, through the installs and any post install tweaks and issues. Highly recommend!

East York Transformation

I set out this past summer to modernize the kitchen in small, quaint East York home. The kitchen had been renovated in the late 90’s however it was begging for new counter tops, cabinets and appliances. Additionally my house is very narrow so I was seeking ways to bring in a greater amount of light while optimizing the limited cabinetry space. After some research on Homestars I stopped into Davisville Kitchens and approached Amanda with my vision for my space and after a brief discussion about process and budgets we scheduled an appointment for Amanda to come on site. A few days later Amanda arrived, energetic as always, offering some design suggestions, took measurements and within a week had designs for me to review. I was ecstatic with the results, which married her interpretation of my vision integrated with her own practical and artistic suggestions. We then proceeded to build and today I wake up and marvel at the results every morning.
There was a good deal of anxiety on my part, as I was living in my house while the transforming my main floor, and Amanda soothed that anxiety with excellent communications, with both herself and Jeff making themselves available to answer all my questions, always in prompt fashion.
The project was finished on-schedule and on-budget and I can’t thank Davisville Kitchens enough for transforming my home into piece of art that it is today.

Kitchen Renovation

Our experience with Davisville Kitchens has been wonderful and extremely positive. My husband and I first came across Davisville Kitchens a year ago when we started to look for a reputable company for our kitchen reno. Amanda was our first point of contact and we were immediately drawn to her enthusiasm and bubbly personality. As the consultation proceeded, we felt reassured and confident that Davisville Kitchens would be the right company to deliver our dream kitchen.
The kitchen reno has progressed smoothly from start to finish. Amanda was very professional and knowledgeable. She has guided us through all steps of the process. She would always give us her honest opinion and she was very on top of our project. We subsequently met with Jeff which was also amazing to work with. He was very committed to ensure our cabinets were properly installed and we were truly satisfied with the end result.
So thank you Amanda and Jeff! We are really happy we have hired Davisville Kitchen. We LOVE our new kitchen - our new "hang out" place! Our kitchen is not only gorgeous, but it is also very functional! There are tonnes of storage not to mention we even got a broom closet. We now cook, eat and entertain in our new kitchen with pride and joy.

Total kitchen renovation

I've got my dream kitchen. DK designer Janelle delivered everything as per my requirement. The end result was amazing. The measurements for the cabinets and appliances were so precise that everything just clicked into place upon delivery. DK owner Jeff is very knowledgeable and has been responsive to all my concerns. Thanks to Jeff's help with measurements my Caesarstone back splash and countertop are perfect. DK subcontractor KH did a great job as well. Our new kitchen floor perfectly matches our old oak floors. All the work was done on time with minimal disruption to us. I would highly recommend DK to anybody who wants their kitchen to be beautiful and done professionally by a very friendly team of experts.

Kitchen Renovation

Amanda at Davisville Kitchens did a wonderful job designing our kitchen. She really understood what we wanted, though we weren't too sure ourselves at first. She walked us through the renovation process and gave us advice on a lot of other design features. Davisville Kitchens was very responsive to requests for small changes after installation. The kitchen has so much more storage space now and feels a lot bigger. We are really pleased with it. We would highly recommend Davisville Kitchens.

Kitchen reno

From our first meeting with Janelle from Davisville Kitchens, we knew we were in good hands. She was able to take our collective ideas and turn them into a customized kitchen that not only fit our requirements but also worked with our space limitations. She was proactive in offering ideas for improvement, and her recommended color schemes were nothing short of perfect. Jeff was also very responsive and helpful. We are so happy with our kitchen and will recommend Davisville Kitchens to all of our family and friends!
