Tom Trucker

We had a horrendous experience with this company. I booked my move months in advance for our 4 bedroom house and went over many details of what we needed to move on the phone. On the day of our move Tom Trucker crew arrived with a small truck, like a cube van! No way was all of our stuff going to fit. I was really stressed out, the crews were difficult to deal with and stood around saying nothing outside while I tried in vain to reach their office by phone. They said they would have to do 2 trips, charged by the hour, and our new house was an hour away!!! They smoked incessantly and one mover was chugging strong booze out of a take-out coca-cola cup (at 9am). They started loading up our stuff, and were able to reach their boss on the phone although he wouldn't answer for us. He had them take our stuff somewhere until it could be sorted out (yes, exactly, they were worried we wouldn't pay). We finally got a call from the owner who said to me, not politely, that they only do half house moves, didn't I know that??? They were not equipped to move whole houses, only half houses. I told him that this was ridiculous and that at no point in any of our many conversations did I indicate that I would like to move only half my stuff! We kicked up enough of a fuss that another truck finally arrived a few hours later... Our move took all day until the evening. It was a horrible day. Go with a reputable company! These guys were a disaster.

AVOID THIS COMPANY!!!!! - This company ran the classic bait and switch on me. When I booked my appointment, they confirmed the per hour price with me but then that changed (to a much higher price) once the movers arrived and had my stuff in their truck. Head office wouldn't pick up my calls (the movers had no problem talking to head office but wouldn't let me talk to them). Don't think you're getting better movers than those on craigslist...avoid this company or you risk having a terrible moving experience

Used Tom Trucker (based on the Yelp recommendations) to move from Bathurst & Claxton to Bathurst & Lakeshore, a few kilometers away on March 1, 2011.

Pros: Very pleasant service on the phone. Showed up on time. Wrapped large furniture in saran wrap like plastic. Disassembled bed, and assembled again.

Cons: Showed up with three movers although we only asked for two and then said three would cost $110 an hour and get the job done faster. The move took 4.5 hours with three workers moving a 1bdrm apartment with no dining room into a 2 bdrm condo. They got lost and did not call our cell phone, and therefore wasted 30 minutes of our time (which we had to still pay for). Broke our mirror even though they wrapped it. Dirtied our couch and mattress, even though they were wrapped, by dragging them on the ground. One of the workers talked incessantly, argued with the others and used our bathrooms repeatedly (about 10 times - we kid you not). The others took several smoke breaks.

So even though they had 3 workers, one to load and unload, and two to carry, we basically only saw one toilet using dude dragging and bringing in our stuff. Probably because they simply did not get along. We had also moved all of our clothing and and several car loads of items out ourselves the previous day to make it easier for the movers.

Completely not worth it, and we would NEVER use or recommend this company to anyone else.

tom trucker is a wonderful moving company. we have used them twice. both times they arrived on time, worked quickly but extremely carefully, and were lovely guys. they are the best movers I have ever had. Nathan and Steve were simply great-- real gents with a nice sense of humor. I recommend them unconditionally.

We called TT after movers we booked initially left our move because they felt they (3 men) didn't want to walk furniture up our driveway!! When the cowards left without even telling us, TT had 2 guys out in 30 mins to do our move. They happily took some pieces to the building beside our as welll! No complaining like the other guys did for an hour, befor deciding it was too much work.
TT movers were positive and upbeat. We were so impressed with their service!!! Will recommend them to everyone we know! Thanks Brian and Franco for saving us!!!

We booked our move for 1pm weeks in advance and packed everything neatly into boxes beforehand. Since we were moving from an apartment, we could only reserve the moving elevator for a 1-4pm time slot that day. When 1pm arrived, we started to get worried. After an hour of calling their office with no answer and leaving several messages (the company doesn't give out the movers' cell phone numbers), we decided to book a U-Haul truck. When we left 10 minutes later to go pick up the truck, the security desk at the apartment called to notify us that the movers had arrived. The movers then called our cell phone to tell us they were waiting outside our unit. So, we had to drive back to the apartment and cancel the U-Haul truck. We got back to the apartment at 2:30pm, where neither of the two moving guys apologized for showing up 1.5 hours late. They had our number so they should have had the courtesy to call us to tell us they were late.

The movers asked me if we wanted a 3rd mover since he just finished another move but it would cost $110/hr instead of $85/hr, so we agreed since we only had 1.5 hours left to move and needed all the help we could get. The movers then took their time moving items down to the truck and organizing them neatly inside. One of the movers even gave himself a break to eat inside the truck. Basically we ended up helping the movers carry boxes down to the truck. By the time the 3rd mover showed up, it was 3:45pm and we were rushing to get everything on the truck. We ended up having to leave smaller items behind to move later by ourselves. The 30 minute drive through rush hour was not too bad and the unloading process was fast.

Overall, the move itself went ok (with a few scratches and a dent on the walls and some scuffs on the floor caused by the movers, which we could live with), but was VERY stressful because we were on such a tight time constraint. Although their pricing was good, we would not recommend them because they are VERY difficult to get a hold, they take a REALLY long time to return messages, and they did not have the courtesy to let us know they were running late. Plus we basically hired the 3rd mover to sit through traffic to the house and help unload the truck, which was a pretty easy task anyway.

Tom Trucker was the greatest moving company I have ever used. I have moved numerous times and they were the best I have had yet. I would recommend them to anyone that is looking to move. They are very friendly, organized, helpful and very fast. We put are stuff into storage and they packed it all perfectly for us. I for sure would hire them again for my next move.

I've hired Tom Trucker twice in the last couple of years to move me into a couple of different places. Their moving skills and organization are excellent, the movers are personable, you can feel comfortable with them that they'll do a good job of everything and look after your stuff properly. The BIG downside to Tom Trucker is that they never, NEVER give you a receipt for tax purposes. I'm doing my taxes now, and made several requests for a receipt for both moves but I never got one. Is it their policy to not issue tax receipts? I wonder... I was assured that I would receive a receipt, but never got one. For this reason alone, I don't plan on using them again.

I've used Tom Trucker many times over the years-these guys are definitely the best!
They are super reasonably priced, and always polite and quick
I recommend them to everyone who needs movers!
