Fast and Professional

Adam arrived and got right to work. When the corroded screws wouldn't come off the outside cleanout, he didn't fuss, he just went to the basement drain and got going there with the camera inspection. Invited me to watch the whole process, very informative. He even gave me some education on how to tell the approximate age of clay pipes, professional through and through.

Dishwasher installation

To start, I'd been happy with this business for nearly 20 years. In June 2023, I hired it to install a new dishwasher. The technician they sent had clearly not installed a dishwasher before. He did not know how to hook up the electrical. I didn't either. We spent an hour in the basement trying to source where the plug was located. Finally I called my electrician who said: "Uh, you just wire the cord into the electrical box at the back of the dishwasher." I was charged $700 for the install because it took 2 hours. I felt bad for the installer so I paid and moved on even though the install COST THE SAME AMOUNT AS THE DISHWASHER. I have now had to call Roto Rooter back TWICE because the first time the dishwasher wasn't level and wasn't draining properly and the second time it wasn't set high enough and pulled away from the counter and was 'floating.' The second visit I wasn't charge. The third I said "I'm assuming I'm not being charged." The installer said "you just need to sign here," which I assumed was "the work was done and seems fine." When the guy left I said "I hope the company at least still pays you for your time." I was not given a bill. I was not asked to provide payment. I was not told "you will be charged and this is the amount." I did not receive a receipt (they always email one). HOWEVER, my credit card was on file, clearly, because a few days later I had a $344 charge on it. I called the company and said I considered this fraudulent, that I would alert my bank, contact the BBB (surprise, it's not BBB accredited) and never use the service again. "You do what you think you need to do," I was told. So, I've alerted the bank, and since the business isn't BBB accredited, I'm posting here. Lots of other plumbing services. I'll be going to a new one.

Basement Water Leak

After going through 2 lesser known plumbers with no luck, I reached out to Roto-Rooters for 'best in the business' service as I was told they are the #1 plumbing company in Toronto/GTA. After being told on the phone that two past plumbers are having trouble finding the source of the leak and that I would require extra tools to help diagnose (drain camera, moisture sensor), I was assured that someone certified and experienced was going to come and figure out the leak. This was far from the truth. Dwayne came in and proceeded to waste 5 hours of my day for 1 hour of work. He spent anywhere from an hour to an hour a half away from the basement outside on the phone and proceeded to change the toilet gasket that had already been changed by a plumber a few days prior. Until Andrew came in, we weren't even able to get a rough idea of what is going on and Andrew is not a plumber but rather works for the restorative team. Afterwards, I was told that they would not process the charges as Dwayne felt he didn't do anything deserving of work. Later on I go ahead and see a charge on my credit card (which I don't remember authorizing the charge for) for $717. Upon calling to dispute, Roto Rooters decides to not honour their lack of work and keep the charges that I will now have to chargeback on my credit card and follow through on the dispute process.

Overall, very poor experience from what is touted as a top of the line plumbing company. The other positive reviews gave me hope when I called them but I've been sorely disappointed. I will give special credit to Andrew's work and Nicole's patience on the phone in discussing the charges but I would never recommend this company to anyone else ever again. I would also suggest you ask them to show their plumbing certification because Dwayne's work was incompetent and not indicative of a certification. Maybe as a Dr. my expectations of certifications are higher but he truly felt like a new grad for an experienced person's job.

TLDR: You're better off going with another plumbing company if your issue is even remotely not straightforward slam dunk case, these guys are not prepared or competent to handle it and will waste lots of time (billing you in the meanwhile) until the 1-2 competent guys come down to figure it out.

Problem solved promptly & for less than expected

Our upstairs toilet backed up into kitchen sink, once. Mike from RotoRooter showed up on schedule, diagnosed a temporary block, gave good advice on cleanup, and charged the minimal service fee.

Toilet Issue

Jordan came out to analyze the issue and concluded that the main pipe from the basement toilet underground was broken. This was done with a camera and also detected that tree roots was the cause of the breakage and blocking the flow. He had suggested that the floor would have to be broken in two places possibly to gain access to make the repair. When Ivan, the excavating crew arrived the next day, he was constantly providing me a play by play of all his actions. The concrete was broken in one place only and managed to repair the clay pipe by seeming together PVC connection. They were very clean, efficient and courteous and once all done the hole was covered and patched with new concrete in under 4 hours. Jordan had called me to amend the quote due to the fact that they only had to excavate in one place and not two. A great experience from start to finish and a job well done!

Blocked Drain

Slow drainage led to water flowing back out of my furnace room drain. Brian found my two drain clean out connections (one is still under floorboards, so he worked from the other). Sent in the magic snake and cleared my blockage.

Roto Rooter

I had roots blocking the drain from my furnace humidifier. Another company wanted to dig up the floor in the furnace room and recement the area. The cost was quite large..
Roto Rooter sent Brian over the same day I called.
Brian was most knowledgeable and efficient. He cleaned the drain of the roots and scoped the drain to be sure it was clear. Brian had all the necessary equipmenet and took great care of me needs!
I would strongly recommend him and Roto Rooter!
