We have an older home in Toronto without a finished basement. Roy was a good salesman and told us what we wanted to hear but things didn’t turn out exactly as we thought. We contracted to have the old flooring and broadloom removed and new hardwood floors installed.
He told us that there would not be any dust or very little and that we didn’t need to cover anything, including the rug on the stairs. I did put drop sheets over the bookcases and doorways.
The workmen ripped up the old floor and the dirt went through the subfloor down to the basement! Everything was covered in more than ½ inch of dirt. Some things were so dirty I just throw them out. My husband told the workmen and they did spend 1½ hours cleaning the floors but it took me 2 plus days to do the rest. The walls on the first floor need to be washed twice and the stair rug 3 times.
Yes the floor is lovely and the workmen did a lovely job fitting around the rads and corners but I would suggest you cover EVERYTHING in plastic or move it out before getting a new floor.
