I have no complaint about this company, Even our closing day was delayed. They were trying their best to stick to the closing day...
There are things like weather that they can not control.
In term of workmanship and quality, I do think that they have done a really good job. I am very surprised to hear the comments about poor quality and garbage materials that they are using.
My experience with Mattamy Home is a much pleasant one compared to Fieldgate homes, our old house. There is no questions about some of the defects we have to deal with. It is not uncommon for a newly built house. My friend who had hired a builder to custom built his house in North York, he has to deal with a long list of defects and his construction cost is keep going up just by fixing defects.
For the Decor center, Mattamy home has a very informative department to help you design your house, unfortunately, the cost are very expensive and there is no discount on anything you do even they do not have to install the standard materials. The staff there really takes their time to help you sort out the colour and design

Quality, Post Sale customer care-Mattamy

Worst buying experience and post purchase support ever experienced. Below rejected quality materials used, upgrades should be labeled as GARBAGE! Good luck getting anyone to respond to your emails/complaints. Once you signed on the dotted line and they receive your deposit, you're just another SUCKER. The trades people hired are extremely inexperienced. Be prepared to take a lot of time off work to deal with their defects and just to add fuel to the fire... The trades people will "try" to fix one issue while causing more and not to mention the MESS you've to deal with and cleanup after.
I'D NOT RECOMMEND THIS BUILDER TO ANYONE!! STAY AWAY.
i heard they're building in King City, ONT. now

New home Buyers beware

Drywall so bad gaps around electrical boxes, wall plates for plugs/switches don't cover gaps on sides. Smooth ceiling on main floor, hammer marks can be seen like (pockmarks) nails coming through, oak stairs chunks and gouges looks like beavers got to it.
Blanket wall insulation in basement exposed around windows not covered in polytarp, taped with tuck tape that is coming off.

Poor customer service and lousy finishing

My title sums it all. Too many issues and nobody comes back to fix any during 30 days, 60 days or 90 days even. I have been waiting for them to come back dix the lines in the ceiling after they have agreed to the repairs and its still on Tarion's. The services manager decided that cant see the lines anymore and hence no repairs and all that happened without communicating back to us; we have been waiting all that time. And most of the upgrades in flooring and showers were poorly finished with a lot of flaws; i should have taken the basic without any upgrades. I have now to find my own contractors to redo. I wasted $40k worth of upgrades to lousy finishing and terrible service.

Postponements forever in closing

Delays in closing 4 times. 3 times in one month + construction strike follows no place to go costing us 10G for rental and storage. Workmanship trades is shoddy especially hardwood floors. At PDI hot water tank (rental) pex water pipes were leaking causing large pool of water on basement floor. Was fixed.
This is our 3rd new home. Have purchased homes from George Wimpy homes and Greenpark and never had any problems.
My rating is average. Customer service was very good.

New Home Construction

Bought a house in Oakville in 2015, and overall, I would say that I'm satisfied. Mattamy has its pros and cons, but personally I wouldn't mind purchasing from them again.

On the negative side, they had many little tactics to overcharge for the house, such as a $30k land premium for no apparent reason on a normal lot. As well, you would be best to stick to only the major upgrades before closing e.g. electrical, floor plan changes, etc; and to choose upgrades you can do yourself afterwards, as the upgrades really do add up e.g. $3500 for a low-level AC. Some things seemed rather cheap and simply served as money-making schemes on Mattamy's behalf, such as $99 for a change in grout colour; this is for something that should really cost nothing to them. As well, be prepared to have your closing delayed - mine was moved back by a month, and even then there were many things missing, such as baseboards and trim. The work is very gradual, and I still have quite a few items from the 30 day form missing. As well, the streets are very dirty during construction, and all the driveways are done at once, so you may have a gravel driveway for a few months.

On the positive side, Mattamy does provide good quality. The staff are relatively helpful, somewhat of a rare commodity in today's market. The finishes are reasonable even without upgrading for the most part, and Mattamy offers a wide range of selection of interiors and exteriors. The Design Studio is pretty large, and unlike the case for other builders that have a single Design Studio, Mattamy has one for each community, which of course means you don't need to go anywhere other than the sales centre for pre-construction work. Don't go overboard on upgrades, because market rates are always cheaper. As for exteriors, I recommend getting an upgraded exterior elevation e.g. French Chateau or English Manor from the day you sign on the dotted lines; nobody likes an ugly house, and I feel sorry for you if you ever decide to go for the Craftsman elevation. There's many floor plans available, and because Mattamy doesn't have huge differences in prices between models of the same frontage, I would get a slightly larger design. The layouts aren't the best; I find they feel to open concept. You can get a better idea yourself at the model homes; they usually have a few at each community. Of course, you also have Architect's Choice, Mattamy's in-house selection of modifications you can do to your house. Do all the possible structural changes you want in the beginning; it will make it much easier for you in the future. I was surprised to learn my community has a free car washing station hooked up on site to clean cars while the dirt is still around; never used it yet, so I don't know too much about it. One of Mattamy's standard policies is to gift-wrap your front door just before closing; definitely a neat little thing. They also provided a gift bag upon closing, and perhaps the thing I liked the most was the NEST thermostat; most builders just give the de facto basic units. Mattamy does make an effort to provide buyers with facilities after closing, it seems.

Overall, my experience has been pretty good, minus the delays in closing, or the expensive list of options. But chances are, I would buy from Mattamy again in the future.

They charge you over the top, only to deliver the absolute minimum. Very arrogant people when dealing with them. Basically everything they do is garbage, paint, drywall, concrete... Their contractors are even worse than them. You can get the same material for much less on the market, but of course they won't let you get your own material or hire your own people of do a certain job. One of their delivery managers said I cannot bring my friend to PDI. Even started arguing with me that PDI doesn't mean inspection, trying to get away with stuff. And they always make you sign the papers that everything is fine and dandy before they complete the job.
One year inspection was a slap in my face... again the do the absolute minimum. Water gathers in my garage and freezes in the winter. The guy pored water on the garage and waited for 30 minutes; then said that the water remaining should be 4 square feet area or else they do not fix it, because Alberta Home Warrantee doesn't cover it. I paid around 700,000 for my house and that's the garbage kind of work I get!
If you have a choice, run away... save yourselves!

Better than our previous builder

This is the second new house we've purchased. There are things about each purchase that are better than the other one. The Mattamy house included the following free upgrades that we had to pay for at the other house: main floor 9' ceilings, air conditioner, main level hardwood floors, wooden stairs and railings, granite counters as part of $5000 worth of free upgrades, door between the house and garage, towel bars, light fixtures. The Frendel (made-in Canada) cupboards were so good that we didn't need to upgrade. Even though the berber carpet was an upgrade, it was so thin that the prongs on the metal bar between it and bathrooms, poke into our feet when we walk on it. We should have upgraded twice. The upgraded carpet at out previous house was thick and luxurious. On the other hand, the upgraded cupboards at our first house were terrible, with the colour fading where our hands touched the wood. Same for the stair railing. The tiles in the Mattamy house were laid properly whereas in the other house, the grout on the kitchen tiles cracked as soon as we started walking on them and the actual tiles eventually cracked in front of the sink and patio door.

Mattamy Problems: Two of the three towel bars fell off the bathroom walls, one leaving a big hole. These were installed by a Mattamy employee, Shower curtain rod was defective and was replaced but continually falls off the wall. When you touch the walls on the stairwell, you can feel little rough bits of paint. It appears as if it wasn't sanded properly. As for PDI, they used one of their customer service employees to fix the problems, instead of a professional. There were gouges on the garage and front doors. He filled, then sanded them but you could still see lumps after he finished. The sod was laid unbelievably quickly and there were spaces between the roles. When we moved in, we booked Cogeco for the next morning but when they arrived, they told us that because of the cold weather, the cable TV boxes hadn't been put in and said they couldn't even hook us up temporarily because there were no evestroughs to attach the lines onto. The Mattamy rep argued about it, saying he'd never heard of a cable company needing evestroughs to attach lines too. We had to wait about 2 weeks for Mattamy to install the evestroughs before we were able to have internet access. This was extremely inconvenient because one of us works online.

Mattamy was in too much of a rush to move us in. They appear to use their own employees instead of professionals to do things like install towel bars and fix other problems. This is the only time in our lives where we have had towel bars fall off the walls and you have to ask yourself why. When it came to painting the front doors, apparently the Mattamy employee who was supposed to paint them, didn't realize that the doors had to be open, so didn't notify the home owners first. We missed having our door painted for that reason. However, their staff was normally very friendly, the house is lovely in spite of the rough bits of paint here and there and we'd recommend them. We expect that no matter who the builder is there will be things about them that one likes and other things that will disappoint. Both houses were structurally sound but we feel we got a better deal from Mattamy.

Grabage homes in total

I bought 2 years old home in 2014 and now its showing the true colors. nails are popping out from everywhere, cracks on drywall, shingles are about to come out, floor tiles cracked, shower is noisy rattling pipes inside, stairs are like raining cats and dogs. Dont buy these houses. they are crap and garbage. how come they built like this even in 4 years things are falling apart. If you talk to them they say its not in warranty. does this statement justify their workmanship. seriously dont buy these fargile homes. They are some kinda looters and Govt cant eye ball on these issues.

Mattamy in Fairwinds Stiysville.

Purchased a home in Fairwinds and moved in October 2015. While moving in, things were not finished inside the home, so contractors were finishing them while I was moving in.
30 day warranty is a nightmare. No one shows up for appointments to address the issues. Haven't used my shower since moved in. It's been 4 months. Mattamy keep promising things they do not deliver.
I am yet to see 1 year warranty list taken care of. You constantly have to push them. Prepare to take a lot of time off work.
I read bad reviews before I have purchased the home, should have stayed way.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND MATTAMY TO ANYONE.

Also Terion is a joke.
