In the spring of 2009 we began what was our dream renovation to our home with a contractor who has been operating in the Durham area for several years now. As the project began we saw signs that there could be trouble when there was problems with him obtaining credit from any of the area stores and his workers not getting along with each other. As the project moved forward, he began claiming additional expenses and requesting more cash without providing any receipts or information to back up his claims. The project began to slow down in early fall and came to a complete halt in late fall. We had two choices, keep paying this crook, or find another contractor, which is what Gord suggested,so we did and have had some excellent work completed since then, by very reliable and trustworthy contractors. We basically took over the role of contractor and hired each trade as needed. Early on in the project contacted the town and discussed any of the issues that had been found and made sure that there were no additional surprises. However, looking at the pictures we found on this site from another home owner in the area, it was like looking at our home. We spent every day going behind the work being done and fixing daily mistakes, so by the time Gord took off, we weren't in too bad of shape. The real icing on the cake was when one of his sub contractors came after us and threatened to place a lien on our property. We were able to negotiate terms with this individual, and he has advised us he would be a willing witness should we decide to sue over breach of contract. We since discovered that although Gord received a large portion of the cash for this job (let's just say I'm embarrassed that I was swindled so easily), he hasn't paid any of the sub contractors who did work on our home. From the Excavation to the Electritian to the Brick layer, no one has been paid and Gord is claiming that we have not paid him, which only adds insult to injury, and Gord received more than enough to pay all of the subs and have a profit. This man has no concern in providing any quality work or product and should be avoided at all costs unless you want to enter into a very trying and frustrating arrangement.
