Power drill set (cordless)

I had bought a really nice cordless drill set, and though the batteries never charged properly, I didn't return it for a long time. This tool had a lifetime warantee if you registered it with the company who made it; but I never did that either. The manager was so extremely nice about my returning the kit, which had only been used twice, due to the faulty lithium batteries. The same kit (two drills) was not available anymore, but the manager gave me credit for the full price I paid, and applied it to a new drill package. I just paid the difference in price. I was so impressed with this new manager who took over the store in 2009 or 2010. I noticed he was also very respectful and pleasant with his staff as well as the customers. Two thumbs up for this Home Depot!

General house stuff.

Where do I start...
Unsafe electrical cords on their tools.
Bolt for the floor sander handle (knowingly striped) falling out and having the drum gouge my floor.
Trying to rent me a tiller with a gas leak.
Finally renting me a tiller that you can't remove the tines from to clean because they are so wrecked they won't come off the shaft.
Missing a carriage bolt for the handle hinge on a power rake. (I went and grabbed a suitable replacement from their bolt section, temporarily fixed it myself in front of the guy and rented it anyway. Unfortunately, my fix is still the one in use...)

The repair guy said that they can't keep up with it and are not allowed to get the proper parts (bolts!) externally anyway. Everything is fixed with whatever they have in the store. Major components are order-able, but only after the coat hanger repair method fails...

I only rent there because they are close, and you practically have to be a repair guy to get some of their stuff working.

Oh, this is just 2010 stories. The list goes way back...

Eavestrough, soffit,leafguard installation

In 2005,I contracted HomeDepot to replace my eavestroughs and install aluminum soffits & fascia for my house plus install siding in one section above the front porch.
Two nights ago, one end of a fascia section came loose. With the winds we had that night (40-60km)the piece must have torn away. The next day,I went into the store to ask about an emergency repair(which I intended to pay for) - well, I called their 1-800 numberand was told they don't do repairs.
When I found a roofer to do the fix, he toldme that the aluminum was just pin nailed-no screws. So,in the spring, I'mgoingto have to have someone come and replace the piece of soffit that came loose because it was wrinkled with the battering from the wind, plus I'll have them inspect and properly secure the aluminum sections.
This could have been a disaster if the piece (which is about 25'long) had come loose and hit a pedestrian.
I think the installation should have been more secure to start with and HomeDepot should establish standards for their subcontractors.
I won't be using their contracting services again.

Garage Door Installation

Ordered a garage door and opener with installation services in May. The sub-contractor for Home Depot came to take measurements - all of 5 minutes, and wouldn't answer any questions we had about the process. The guy couldn't jump in his truck fast enough.
Once getting a revised priced due to a door sizing change, my husband paid over the phone with credit card. When I went to the store to get a copy of the receipt that shows we paid (and for tax purposes), the customer service desk associate claimed he could not print one out, then as he was dealing with me, took a personal phone call, which he didn't want to put down, even though I had other questions and issues needing a resolution. After arguing for half an hour I finally got a printed receipt. I asked for someone else to help me and was refused. I thought the associate would have been more than happy to dump me onto someone else so he could finish his personal call in silence.
I then called the sub-contractor to confirm that they were going to install the garage door AND opener that we had ordered from day 1. She said she had no record of a garage door opener needing installation. I called Home Depot back - both the project coordinator and manager were on vacation with no backup. The assistant manager assured me everything would be resolved.
The next week the installer came, looked at my existing door and said he could not install the new door or the opener. I called the project coordinator who got flustered, as he was just coming back from vacation and didn't seem to want to get his hands dirty quite so soon. After arguing with him on the phone and waiting a couple of hours to find out what was going on (the installer left by then, but only after asking me to sign that the work was completed!!!! He had done NOTHING. I told him no.) I decided to escalate to the store manager, Robert Peters. Finally, he got it, and understood that a Lowe's has just opened in the area. Another day gone, and they finally figured out the problem. A week later the same installer set up my door and opener, although I still had to press him to make sure he covered the full operation and quick release with me. I am happy that my door is finally installed. Although it is now working perfectly, I would never recommend their services to anyone and will never use their installation ever again. Too many people at all levels not realizing that delivering on basic services is mandatory if you want to stay in business. I can only hope that the store manager realizes he needs to fire some of them. It should not have been this hard or required me to call the store manager.

Kitchen Renovation

My new kitchen was designed by and installed through Home Depot. The installation contractor made a mess and the whole kitchen had to be removed and correctly installed. Home Depot arranged and paid for all the removal and re-installation, inspected the new instal every step of the way and kept me up to date. I was very satisfied.

rented portable storage unit

When I was getting ready to sell my house it became clear that we had to get rid of a lot of stuff if we were going to be able to show it properly. We rented two portabel storage units that were 7'x7'8' approximately. HD delivered them, we filled them up, and then they took them away to their storage yard where they stayed safely for a month. Then we had them delivered to our new home. It was a fabulous experience!

new washer, dryer and stove

I was very pleased with the selection available from the store when we went looking for a wahser, dryer and stove. The service was excellent and, while there was a delay in the delivery of the products because of the stove was out of stock, they were good about following up with it and arranging the new delivery date.

2nd Floor Bay Window w/ Installation

We were looking to replace our 2nd floor bay window in our turn of the century home. Because of the size and location on the 2nd floor, we decided to go with a wood window from Home Depot to ensure we would have the support of a large company in case there were any problems post installation. After I had removed the interior trim, they sent someone out to measure the opening, and then ordered the custom window. On installation day, the contractors were having difficulty installing the window. Turns out the opening was narrower at the top (standard for old brick houses), and the window wasn't fitting. The contractors proceeded to force the window in place, so much so that the center pane was severely deformed from the pressure. The next day, I called the project person at Home Depot; she personally came out and was shocked at what she saw. She immediately remeasured, ordered a new window, and had it replaced within 3 weeks. (They had to totally destroy the old one to get it out). Thank you Home Depot for making a bad job right!

plumbing supplies

We bought pipes for our bathroom. We also bought sinks and a tub. Home Depot had everything we needed. They are versatile and have always assisted us with our purchases. I have been purchasing from Home Depot for the last seven years and plan to continue doing so.
