Replacement windows and storm door

I bought a brand new dream home in North York that I thought was perfect, but one day I noticed consensation in some of the windows. I called the window company that instlalled them, and quickly learned they had gone out of business for this very reasons. I found Fieldstone by word of mouth. Fieldstone came quickly, provided a fair price for high end windows and installed them seamlessly. the staff were pleasant and competent and process was was stress-free. I wouldn't hesitate to use or recommend Fieldstone in future. In fact, I am as other windows are also starting to fail. I also used them to install a steel door to the cold room which has made a big difference to heat loss in the basement.

Supplied doors and windows for the entire house

We used the Fieldstone becuase they came highly recommended by my friend who changed all of her windows/doors using this company.
The owner, Ken, is very knowledgeable and friendly. He made sure my order was exactly as per the architect's drawings. Suzie, the marketing director is amazing. It's pretty much due to her outstanding interpersonal and professional skills that I decided to use Stonefield. I worked with the builder, who could have gotten different windows for me but I chose to use Stonefield due to the above mentioned reasons. Plus their price was fair.

The windows/doors were delivered pretty much on time with only a very small delay. The majority of doors/windows were in a good working order. No issues.
The sliding door supplied by the Stonefield has turned out to have a design fault. Stonefield promised to contact the manufacturer to resolve the issue. That has not happened to date. It's been approximately 6 months since I communicated my concern to them. I have sent numerous follow up emails but no answer cam back.
Also, one window has a manufacturer's defect. I have been repeatedly asking Stonefield if they would get me a credit from the manufacturer but it has not happened either.
In fairness they came to fix a couple of mismatched handle covers fairly promptly.
The Customer Service rep - Tancy - lacks basic communication skills and the product knowledge. She either asks the questions that she already asked before or simply doesn't respond to emails. To quote my husband's: Who is she related to?
The situation makes me sad for a few reasons:
I considered using this company for another project I had in mind for both supply and installation.
I really feel that the owner went out of his way to make my project a success but the incompetence of staff responsible for the follow up has really brought the overall impression down.

I am still hoping they will resolve things for me.

2 New Windows

This was a very low score of 2. Fieldstone has contacted me and I believe we have resolved the problem. They are going to order new screens for us. I will monitor the situation and change the rating to very high as soon as I receive the screens. For now, I've bumped it up. Here was the original review, slightly modified:

"Over the past 7 years, we’ve slowly been replacing our old windows with Loewen windows. The previous two times, we’ve simply called Loewen up directly and they sent their own salesperson to measure. About 6 weeks later, after waiting for the windows to be custom made, they sent a contractor to install.

It was different this time. Instead of sending a salesperson, Loewen told us to use one of their Toronto agents, Fieldstone Windows, from the outset. After setting up an appointment, Fieldstone sent an initial salesperson to assess our needs. A week later, one of their expert fitters came, measured everything and took down details. We showed him the other Loewen windows. A contract was prepared, and again we were told 6-8 weeks for intstallation.

Loewen make beautiful windows – I used to think of them as the BMW of windows. Fieldstone is a very professional outfit.

Both statements are true; but only partly. Once the windows were installed, everything went south.

The problem is pretty simple. Our existing Loewen casement windows have a brushed stainless steel finish for the frames around the screens. After the new windows were installed, we noticed that the new screen frames were not stainless steel, but a dark grey, gun metal colour. It should never have happened: Loewen knows what our windows were like in the past because they have a record of our previous orders; Fieldstone saw all of the windows in the house and based the contract on that. (As an interesting aside, the new windows came with the correct stainless steel finish for the hardware cranks, suggesting an inconsistency in their very inconsistency!)

Eight weeks later, with only our prompting to sort the problem out, we received our final offer from Loewen and Fieldstone to resolve the problem: we could get the proper coloured screens for cost. Think about that for a second. Custom ordered windows are prepared in accordance with windows we already have, two salespersons/experts see our current windows, and 8 weeks later when the windows arrive they aren’t correct. Their proposed solution is that we have to pay for the privilege of having this problem fixed.

Our friend ordered a BMW a year ago. Delivery was promised in 8 weeks. When the car arrived from Germany, it was the wrong colour. He was devastated. BMW gave him two options: (i) he could take the wrong coloured car and they would DEDUCT $8000 from the negotiated price for the mistake; or (ii) he could wait another 8 weeks for the correct colour car to arrive. He chose the latter. Others might settle for the wrong colour but lower price. Obviously, BMW thought they may not have to order another car for him, but were prepared to.

BMW’s approach is the right one. Fieldstone and Loewen’s isn’t – they seem to have it completely backward. They should be ashamed of their stinginess. We are clearly caught in the middle of some unknown issue between the two of them and unable to resolve it."

First floor, 6 windows installed in one day

I can have only praises for Fieldstone. After a few months of researching what window brand I want to install, I decided to go with Strassburger. They have a warranty policy second to none and no bad reviews. From here, the task did not get any easier, as I needed a trustworthy installer. It is known that the windows warranty is only as good as their installation. Homestar was by best friend in selecting the installer. Their system makes it easy to search by product installed and filter by rating. The rating of Fieldstone is no accident and I can confirm that with the 10 stars rating I am giving them right now. I am a picky customer and I put them through a rather long list of inquiries and changes until I was satisfied. The sales manager, Rose, is very knowledgeable and patient. She came up with good suggestions for situations we did not know what to choose. Their promise of delivery was right on spot. The installers were very punctual and handled the furniture inside the rooms with care. I am surprised that no one here mentioned that they come with their own runners and covers to protect the sensitive areas from edgy tools and debris. After they finished the job they did a full cleanup inside and outside the house. I need to mention that I chose to install the windows with trims and sills. Their carpenter is very skilled and did a wonderful job. I highly recommend their woodwork. All woodwork was done from poplar wood and not the cheaper finger joints pine that most people use. It looks really beautiful. I highly recommended this company.

Bow windows replaced

In April, 2013, we had Fieldstone Windows and Doors Ltd. replace 2 stacked bow windows at the front of our house. These windows were each approximately 9 feet by 6 feet, were originally in wood, and were replaced by a high quality vinyl product. In addition, the roofing above the top window (originally steel), the wooden mid-section, and the wooden skirt were replaced by aluminum capping in the identical colour as the vinyl windows. See photos attached.
This project culminated 2 years of investigation, and six contractor quotes. We chose Fieldstone based on their HomeStars rating, their knowledgeable sales staff (Rose and Scott), and the fact that every question we had was answered confidently by their staff.
This is a first class, service first company. The installers were highly qualified and always kept us informed with their progress. I was hoping to match the look of the windows that were removed, but the final outcome was better than I had imagined was possible. It was that good.
The emphasis on detail and service sets this company apart from others. There are no screws or seams apparent in the aluminum capping. There were no trees damaged, even though our trees were surrounding the entire lower bow window. A manufacturing defect in one window was a no argument replacement. The crew was very respectful of us and our property at all times.
We are very pleased with Fieldstone, its’ products, and particularly its’ staff. This is a 10 out of 10 business which we highly recommend.

New windows and sliding glass door

Very professional company. Great customer service and very easy to deal with.

The installation crew was awesome. Took their time and installed three windows plus a 8 foot sliding glass door. They left no mess and made sure everything looked perfect before leaving.

We're going to use them again in the near future to replace the upper windows.

Full Home Window Replacement

Overall impression was good, we had Dave come out and give us a consultation, he made some excellent recommendations regarding design options. Dave listened to what we wanted and was able to quickly turn around the quote. At this point the sales team let us down a little, numerous emails and quotation revisions all of which had minor errors, but we still went ahead with the installation. We are glad we did. The installers did an excellent job, they showed up on time, worked hard and, the windows look great! In the end we still have some minor trim work to fix around the patio door, but we are generally happy with the work.

Window install

We went with a retrofit to replace our old windows. We were not happy with how the windows were set the first time, but Fieldstone re-did the job and reset the windows further out without complaint. They were very easy to work with, accomodating and their installers work hard. Easy to recommend them.

replacing old windows

Over a year ago Fieldstone has replacd 6 windows in our house.
2 bathrrom, kitchen, living room, bedroom and one in the beismant.

The good:
- I got an excellent price
- installation took place during busy time and even earlier than anticipated
- installation was done very quickly
- windows were sparkling clean after installation (I didn't have to wash them for nearly a year after :) )
- so far the windows are functioning (and looking!) flawlessly

So-so:
- I wish I'd be offered a choice of casing style. I didn't think there was and now I've got a fancy casing everywhere. It's ok in the bedroom but in kitchen and bathroom I find it gets dirty quickly, and because it's so intricate it's hard to clean.
- in few places the removal of old windows was done so that big pieces of plaster of the wall were damaged. They were mostly patched and sanded but not to perfection, I ended up redoing a few (mostly on top of windows, where it's not too visible, but still).
- bathroom windows were not sealed around the casing

Overall, a good job done fast for an excellent price and good quality windows put (I did some research on brands of windows).

Thank you for your kind words; we're happy that you are pleased with your windows! Thank you as well for your comments on how we could have improved your experience. We do have some of the most extensive options available in the GTA, in terms of trim choice, colour, shaped, custom glass, etc. In the future we will make more of an effort to make our customers aware of the possibilities.

We had a door and four windows installed this month. Eric Tulikorpi was fantastic as an installer. He did an impeccable job. And the windows are great, too. Thank you, Eric and Fieldstone.
