We purchased a dining table and 5 leather chairs for our newly renovated kitchen area in November and were told it would take 8-10 weeks. It took 5 months to get our furniture and every piece was damaged. The leather that was supposed to be high end leather was scuffed and marked, the table was dusty and scuffed that we had to wipe it down with soap and water to actually see the surface. To say we were shocked would be an understatement. We should have just refused the delivery at that point, but never having had been in that situation didn't do so.
Even the delivery men pointed out all the damage and apologized indicating it wasn't their doing as they didn't want to be held responsible - the furniture had arrived to their warehouse like that.
Luckily there were lots of pictures taken and we got on the phone with VISA and spent lots of time chasing Ethan Allan - the rotten experience doesn't just end with the glorified sales reps who call themselves interior designers with a bad attitude. It goes up the chain to the general manager and every one in between. It seems it must be the company culture to treat the customer like dirt!!
We were told many times that it wasn't their problem that items were slightly damaged or scuffed, we paid for it and it's custom so it belonged to us!! Luckily they picked up all the damaged items to fix them, but putting on a bit of paint on a leather chair that's been scratched and scuffed - doesn't make it fixed - it just makes it look new. As for our dining table even their furniture repair technicians couldn't repair it as it was so horribly damaged ! So then why would they try and pawn it off on a customer??
We still didn't end up getting all of our money refunded but got the majority of it. We had order a table top protector for over $700 but they said that wasn't damaged so that we should keep! Even if we didn't keep the custom table??
That is just how Ethan Allen does business.
I wish I had seen all the poor experiences that people had had with Ethan Allen both in Canada and the USA, before even stepping foot in that store. How is it possible that a store that has such a consistent horrible customer experience stay in business?
I just saw an advertisement for their store down in the South part of Calgary as the Dalhousie location closed down. And I can't believe they are still in business, sucking in more customers?
Finally all I can say is if you are looking to buy furniture this is not the Ethan Allen of 20 plus years ago, they may have had a great reputation for the past , but that time is no more. They are truly what you would expect from a snack oil salesman. They promise you an amazing experience but in the end just want to charge you the most the can, and then once you are in, good luck if you even get a product you can use - let alone something close to the quality you'd expect for the price you paid.
GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, THIS COMANY IS NOT WORTH IT!!!!
