gutters

Do not trust this company. Do not be fooled by their marketing, their guarantees and their photos. Unlike other companies, this one will send a young and inexperienced salesperson to do your quote. He does not know what he is talking about. They will try to squeeze more money out of you every step along the way.

We were fooled by the appearance of professionalism.
We paid a deposit of 1/3 of the job despite the warning signs. We were told that our gutters would be done within 2-4 weeks. Three months later, they apparently attended our home unscheduled and apparently looked at the job without us being present. They then called me and claimed that the extent of work that was required was far beyond what was quoted.

I have had four other experienced tradesmen look at the job and tell me that this company was not honest with me - I terminated the contract and months later I have yet to receive my deposit.

Make sure you don't buy a service from a company that increases their costs due to marketing overhead and paying salespeople who are NOT tradespeople.

Run the other way.

Company Response

We find this review discouraging and disturbing. We do apologize for your experience! However, we are not in business to fool our customers. We at D'angelo and Son's strive to be the best and thorough with each and every one of our projects. This response was so important to us we sent the owner Aaron D’Angelo to visit the homeowner on Saturday Morning. With over ten pictures we showed how originally the old aluminium fascia did not go all the way up to the top under the drip edge and had rotted the fascia board. That being said from the ground this would be impossible to see. Unfortunately their is not much more we could have done even though this is not the most desirable information to receive. In order to fix this problem it will take additional work. Putting eavestrough over top of this rotten wood fascia board would turn out to be a big problem in the future for the homeowner and our Reputation. We wish there was better news. Even though it would have been at an additional cost we would not feel comfortable moving forward with this project as it was originally. Even though we did not feel that this was our mistake we did offer to complete the eavestrough for free. When asked we refunded her deposit without any fees or deductions. If all else hopefully we educated the home owner on the project and we hope she takes our recommendation seriously. Please make sure the next contractor does not ignore these issues.

Complete roof

In the fall of 2013 we purchased a house that we planned to do a complete Reno on. In order to protect our investment we wanted a start with replacing the roof. We did our checks when looking for a roofer. D'angelo roofers appeared to be a reputable and good company. They came in with the 2nd highest quote but we decided after meeting with one of the reps we would go with them.

So the roof went on. During that week the contractors managed to piss off my new neighbours by constantly playing their loud music despite being asked not to. Normally the music wouldn't be a big issue with me but as I found out when my neighbour was having it out with them, his wife was at home with terminal cancer and the noise plus music was causing her to be uncomfortable in her last days. You would think this would be enough to make anyone understand and stop with the music but the next morning they were right back at it until I unplugged the radio and threatened to call the owner. This was the final day and I stayed home to babysit them.

Next that day a delivery of a fridge was being made to my house. The roofers had their company truck parked at the bottom of the driveway. They were asked to move the truck to aid in the delivery. I then went inside to prep the area. About ten minutes later I heard yelling and swearing from outside. I go outside to find the delivery man being surrounded by the roofers and a fight that was about to occur. The truck hadn't been moved as asked and the delivery man asked again if they could move the truck. A racial slur was made towards him which sparked an argument. I personally had to separate them. Then get the truck moved and be a peace keeper to simply have my fridge delivered!

Next, yup it keeps going. There was the cleanup, or lack of clean up. There was nails and paper everywhere. With a 2 year old and a dog the nails were a concern. My wife and I chose to clean it up ourselves rather then get them to come back because of the problems we had.

Now that the roof was on we were just happy it was over and that we wouldn't have to deal with them again so we moved on. The roof looked good. Until the spring of 2014 when we discovered after returning from a vacation that the roof was not installed properly! The one and the only thing we wanted from our roof was for it to protect us from the weather! To protect our hard earned money we were putting into out house!
We had well over 3000 dollars of water damage caused. We called d'angelo and sons and talked to everyone to have the roof fixed and the damage inside fixed. We were told that they were experiencing a higher then usual amount of claims that spring but they would make everything good. Time passed and we had not heard anything from them. So then we again starting to call. This time they sent a rep out to look at the roof who told us it's jugs been a bad winter..., that the rough may or may not have been installed right and that he would be in touch with us.
Two weeks passed with no follow up. So again we called this time getting ahold of one of the owners who gave us his word all would be made right. He wanted to use his guy to fix the inside of the house and that the roof would be replaced. Guess what..... That's right Nothing! To our own fault we gave up and because we had survived the summer rain with no leaks we let ate it and moved on leaving the damage inside for a future project.

Now spring of 2015 is starting and the regret has set in and the phone call run around has started again. Again with the same promises of someone will call you back, with no return phone calls. Again the water leaking into our walls causing damage....

Looks like it's going to be small claims court at this point.

Soooo in summary if you want a inconsiderate, confrontational, lazy, incompetent, unprofessional roofer who has no pride in workmanship and does not make their mistakes right then d'angelo and sons is for you!!!!

STAY AWAY!!!!!!!

Thanks for your review. At this time we would like to take this opportunity to educate our homeowners in General of the cause of this leak. As Mentioned in the review, "we had survived the summer rain with no leaks." This is correct, we would agree that you would have no problems or leaks with our installation. The cause of the leak during this winter is caused due to ice damning. We would like to quote a CBC news coverage that mentions Insurance premiums may rise: Insurers say its been a bad winter for claims. Ice damming can damage structurally sound roofs, making them crack under the pressure of melting ice and causing water leaking inside homes. The title of this news ad is "Ice Dams" wreaking havoc. Its our understanding that heat lines existed before our roof install. This is a great preventative measure to take. We do not re-install used heat wires but you do require new ones. We highly recommend to this client and all our clients who have problems with ice dams, to maintain your roofs via working heat wires, proper snow removal of rooflines. And also steaming ice dams off which we can provide as a service as well. We do apologize for your issues and would recommend for you to do any of the above.

New Roof

Disappointing, I would not recommend them. The site was left with garbage on the front and back lawn, including dozens of loose nails on the back porch. The siding on the second floor had dirty hand prints on it, and the back eaves trough had black residue across its entire length. There were strips of plastic from the backs of the shingles that were sticking out along all edges of the roof and flapping in the wind.

When I asked the foreman to have someone clean up after the job, he denied responsibility but said he would get it cleaned up. When the crew returned they argued with me about what their foreman had told them and treated me poorly. For example, I told the foreman that there was a hole in my eaves trough that wasn't there prior to the work they did on my roof, but that I didn't know if they did it or not (because I can't be sure). The foreman said it couldn't have been them but that they will put silicone on it, or else replace the eaves trough. I told him that there was no need to replace the eaves trough but silicon would be great. When the crew arrived four days later one member told me that I had blamed it on them and was very upset. I have no need to argue with him about what his foreman told him, that's not my business and I shouldn't have to deal with that.

Honestly, there was an obvious lack of professionalism in the work that I could see, which makes me question the quality of work that I cannot see. When I mentioned this concern to the foreman, he said, "Well, you have a warranty". This doesn't make me feel great about the money I paid for a quality job, when his assurance about the work is that if it needs to be replaced that I won't have to pay for it.

Eavestrough and fascia replacement

We moved into a new house (for us) last year. The first thing we did was to replace the eavestrough and fascia as it was old and leaking. D'Angelo & Sons were punctual with the estimate and even reduced the pricing when I mentioned they were not the lowest bid (even though that was not my main criteria for choosing the company to do the work). They arrived a few weeks later (well within the timelines they had stated) and the job was finished in one day. The worksite was cleaned up and the job looked good. The first heavy rain we noticed quite a few leaks, so we called to let them know. Someone came within a few days, did some caulking in the areas I indicated and the job was done. We have had no issues since. Would recommend them highly.

Roof shingle replacement

We went with D'Angelo and Sons Roofing for a couple of reasons and were happy with the results. The first reason: Of all the vendors who sent someone to give an estimate on the job, D'Angelo's representative was the most thorough. He was the only one to actually go up on the roof and inspect the condition of our shingles up close. He also went in the attic and checked for any signs of roof problems from the underside. All the other companies stayed on the ground and provided an estimate on only what they could see from the driveway or in the backyard. The second reason: D'Angelo's offered a better underlay product than offered by the other vendors. Some offered tar paper, others offered nothing to be placed between the plywood and the shingles. The third reason: They are a well established company and has many good reviews on the internet including on Home Stars. They took longer than originally estimated to complete the job, which I expected as our roof is quite large and steep. There were a couple of untrimmed shingles in a valley that needed follow up attention by the supervisor, but overall it was a job well done. Of all the quotes we got, they were one of the highest, but we felt that their better product offering and service was reflected in their price. We feel that we got a great roof that will stand up well to our Canadian weather.

New Roof

D'Angelo Roofing does amazing work! Before D'Angelo, our roof was the talk of the neighborhood..and Not in a good way! With 3 teenage boys to feed, we had delayed this repair for too long and it was a constant worry for us. Shayne came promptly to give us an estimate and followed up in a timely manner with reassurance that they would do a good job.
The crew came early and were very polite. They had the whole job done before I was home from work that afternoon. The patio and walkways were cleaner than before they came! We were thoroughly impressed! We would highly recommend D'Angelo & Sons. Let it rain!

Roof & Insulation & Eaves

Two neighbours had used D'Angelo for roofing, so we called for an estimate. Having had a previous unrelated inspection done we knew what was needed. Jeremy came to estimate and we essentially re-did the entire roof. Much of the plywood needed to be replaced, the insulation topped up to code and proper venting provided as per today's building code. Based on this meeting we signed up for the work to be done. Because of the amount of work required it did take a few days. The various crews came punctually and did their work in a professional manner. Daniel as project manager was great to deal with - always available. The final result looks great, clean up was perfect. We are very pleased.
