Toxic Odours emitting from the Shutters

The installer Danny was rude when installing the shutters; he asked my husband to throw the installers garbage in the garbage. I told him that we are paying for the shutters and therefore he works for us, not the otherway around. The patio door and side window shutters were a fortune, but the off gassing of the lacquer paint was lethal for over 6 days now. I have health effects from them, dizziness, throat irritation, headache, bad taste in my mouth and given the hot humid weather the stench is worse. Cadillac shutters did not off gas the shutters and installed them right away. I am very concerned that my family is suffering from health affects from this installation as they are extremely toxic. When I asked the owner what can be done, he suggested that he could "remove them and store them in my garage for a few months"...probably something that should have been done prior to their intallation. I am requesting a refund as this was not an inexpensive venture. Don't buy anything from this company if you are health concious!!

I was very disappointed to see your review. However with that being said, I would now challenge your comments particularly about who was rude. My installer asked your husband could you "kindly" throw some small pieces of wood in the garbage. This caused an over reaction from you, as you can see in the comments in your review ("I told him that we are paying for the shutters and therefore he works for us, not the otherway around"). Your reaction turned the situation into unnecessarily confrontational. Also, if you felt the shutters cost a "fortune" you did have the option of saying no to the purchase. As far as the smell off the shutters I called you to discuss. As we agreed, we are going through a very hot and humid period right now. I did offer to remove the shutters and store them for a few days, not a few months, to let the paint odor dissipate to which you refused. As far as a refund, this is a custom made product and is non refundable. We strive to satisfy our customers , if we didn't we wouldn't still be in business after 35 years. You can reach me @ 416-451-2155 if you wish to discuss further.

A lifetime Success

I have used Cadillac on three different occasions over the past 17 years. They have been great all three times.

I had to deal with Ernie and he was great. He gave me options, a great price and great service. His attention to detail is his greatest strength and that is why the California shutters were always installed correctly.

Seventeen years after I bought my first set of shutters, they still look great and are in great condition. Thank you Cadillac.

California Shutters

The shutters were not ready to install on the original date scheduled. The ones on my doors are literally coming apart at the seams, and in the bedrooms, the slats are coming off of several of them

Hi I'm not sure who you are as your not using a real name. But if that was the case. You should of called us , as we take our service and warranty seriously! That's why we are still in business after 39 years ! A happy customer is our goal!
As for not being installed on the scheduled date, we book in advance so there would be no reason why they weren't ready.

Shutter Repair

Our grandson broke two vanes in our family room shutters requiring new dowels to be inserted. We purchased the shutters from Cadillac about ten years ago so I called them and they advised that if I brought the shutters to their office they might be able repair them while I waited.
When I brought them in Steven quickly and efficiently repaired them and they didn't even charge for the repair.

Wonderful service and great people! Thank you very much!

Blinders Installation (LOTS of light through the Blinds)

I just wanted to warn people about blinders that are supposed to darken the room and how Cadillac Shutters deals with its customers.

I ordered blinders from Cadillac Shutters and on the day I discussed the options with Ernie who took the measurement of the windows. During the conversation I inquired about how much light would be blocked by the blinders. Ernie said there would be some light coming from the sides (which is expected) but there would be no light coming through the blinds themselves and the blinders would darken the room. After installation and to my surprise it did not darken the room as expected. There is so much light coming through the blinds that on a sunny day it is like there is no blinders at all. After phone calls with Ernie and the owner of Cadillac Shutters (Steve) I was told that this is how the blinders work. I mentioned that I was misguided and if I knew that, I would have not chosen that blinders. Steve keeps saying Cadillac cannot do anything about but charging me an extra of $400 dollars to replace the blinders on top of $1,250 dollars that I already paid. That is unacceptable to me and shows complete disrespect to customers. They transferring the onus of misguidance and poor customer support/lack of proper employee training to me.

After this episode and how they dealt with the situation I can't recommend them to anyone. I added a pic to show how much light comes through the blinders.

*** UPDATE ***
I was contacted by Cadillac Custom Shutters on Saturday (April 14) and was informed that they will replace existing blinders at no expense to me. They asked me to add a note here so they come to my place and we can go through the details (style, colour, etc.) of the new option. I will update this review again once this has been confirmed and new installation is complete.

42 Panels!

I'm a GC and this was the first time I had done business with Cadillac. Steve and his team came in to measure and I received the quote a day or so after. His installer then came to do a second check measurement. They delivered and installed the panels on the date and time that was promised. One small above door panel was missing and I called in, they apologized and had the final panel installed about a week later. That's good turn around in construction. After I gave the project over to my client, she had some problems with a couple of the shutters not closing 100%. I let Steve know and they returned again a week or so later to adjust them. My client was very fussy - I didn't notice anything different after the adjustments. My client was happy, I was happy and will definitely use these guys again.

Thanks Steve and team!

Shutters

I usually do not reviews online unless I believe it is necessary. I am writing this today to warn those who are about to do business with Cadillac Shutters. This was my first time to get a company using a word of mouth from somebody. I did not spend much time reading reviews or doing my homework and this was my mistake. So here is how it goes.
Usually, they respect you until you pay the deposit. Once you do that, you are owned. They will simply dictate their terms including how long it takes and can change whatever they want. For me, it took them a month to do 4 windows in my house. When I called to see whether they can speed it up, I was answered with this statement “You already signed sir; there is fine print you should have read”. So I suspected the whole idea and went to Costco and found that I could have saved at least $600 out of the $4500 I paid for Cadillac Shutters. Also, Costco ones come with a much better warranty and rust proof hinges.

Anyway, I already gave them $1000 and I said ok let us see what will happen. They came and installed everything and when I came back from work I found that a room with 2 windows are opening the shutters on top of each other, which mean I can only use one window at a time. They should have made it open against the wall instead. So I called them and they said we will send some body. A week after they sent somebody and he was the same person installed them and he was ANGRY. He kept saying this is how it should be installed and they make me pay for this trip. They treat us so bad and so forth. So to make him happy I gave him $20 and I said for the gas. He spent less than 10 minutes fixing it any way.
A month later, came along the big problem when I found that the bottom part of 2 shutters is severely damaged and the paint went off and can be so easily pealed. I called them and they said ok, bring them over and we will fix them. I told them how can take them off; they said it is your problem.
So I called again and this time I talked to that lady, which is the co-owner, she said that this is water damage we will fix it this time but no more in the future. I do not know how she realized that over the phone without seeing the actually damage. I told her how come the other windows are fine; actually the half of the same window is fine! She said I do not know, you have an issue with your house it is leaking air from outside. Having a new house, I was kind of skeptical about what she said, so I examined the matter myself and found that some of their shutters are sealed from the bottom and some are not, which explained the whole thing.
Anyway, nobody called me to pick them up as promised until I called again and now she said oh, we need $100! I told her but you said this is under warranty as I installed them less than a month ago and you said you will do them for free. She said no, we need $100 for transportation and this is not covered by warranty and she referred again to the fine-prints.
With real lack of options here, I agreed to pay $100. Somebody came and took them and I stayed without shutters or cover for the window for 2 weeks until they finally came installed them back. But surprisingly they did not replace the damaged part. They simply sanded it and painted it, which made them look SO UGLY.
So, please do your homework before contacting this company.

I contacted this company based on recommendations from my parents and in-laws as we were looking for plantation shutters for nine window panes on the main floor of our new build home. I found the customer service excellent, from the promptness in responding to my initial quote request, the in home consultation, as well as the installation. California Shutters Entire Home

We just got our new california shutters custom made and installed by Cadillac Custom Shutters. What a difference! I didnt realize what a huge change it would make in the appearance of our home! The house looks brand new. In the last month alone we have renovated our kitchen, 2 bathrooms, new hardwood, and our basement, but I think the biggest improvement is the custom shutters installed on all of our windows.

The team at Cadillac Custom Shutters was excellent, from the initial home measurements which were done very quickly to the installation from Danny and Pedro. The guys did a great job and the house looks new!

Thanks and I will recommend your service to friends and family.
