We had a sewer back up and we called Absolute for after hours service to unblock the basement sewer. The plumber, Victor arrived, proceeded to walk through house with boots on full of snow and salt. Without investigating, Victor advised that we need to excavate because it was either roots or a collapsed pipe. He went and got the snake to see if there was blockage and dragged the equipment up the stairs when it flipped off the wheels. He suggested that he could not move the snake through the piping as it was blocked outside the house and, again advised a dig was required and that he could bring in people the next day for a fee of $2400. We declined as it felt like a sales pitch (that was the only solution he had). We asked questions and he would say he is professional, he knows and we need to take care of it. If I suggested something it was a waste of time and at one point walked away from me while I was talking.
On the Monday, we contacted a plumber who had previously cleared this drain and he once again cleared the drain in about 10 – 15 minutes with a plunger.
I called Absolute and was almost hung up on by a rude office staff person when I asked to speak to a manager or supervisor to provide feedback. When I finally spoke, he told me a manager would be in touch and would call my office. Instead we received a voice message on our home phone from Victor, with what he considered an apology, using the excuse that it was the end of his shift and if there was someone at the house to help with his heavy equipment that there would not have been any issue.
At the very least Victor was not professional (boots in house, spit on walkway, was careless with equipment), the office staff was not professional, both were rude. For a blocked pipe we would have paid a lot of money had we decided to do what we were told to by Absolute.
