Good from far, but far from good.
There definitely was some good straight tile work done here. The bathroom downstairs was pretty good. The main bathroom upstairs had cracks in two tiles, which they did fix for free, as I would expect them to. I had asked them to be careful about the tiles they used, I bought extra tile on purpose, just in case any tiles were scratched or chipped. They used several chipped tiles as you can see from the picture of the subway tiles. This is after I told them I specifically wanted them to not use any chipped tiles, and to put those aside. I really was okay with more tile waste. Take a closer look at the picture and you can see what I mean. The biggest issue I have is that they did not do a good job on the shower curb, one end sticks out. As you can see from the bird's eye photo, it does have a flat surface and isn't too noticeable. First, Ikbal wanted us to use a marble top, and asked us to buy one. Then he couldn't cut it, even though it said right on the package that you can cut it on sight. He broke that one, at a cost of $100 to us. We finally settled on the large white tiles. Now, when I have said the curb wasn't done properly, he has tried to blame me for choosing to use the floor tile on the sides. But he said he could use them and make them look good. This turned out to be untrue. He also left out some tiles, as you can see from the picture of the inside curb. These were out of direct line of sight and the missing tile holes were simply covered with grout. Now he is asking for $250 to fix the job. The cost of materials, he said. But I have the tile and I have the grout. Another contractor I have trusted in the past who does amazing work, can't believe that he is not fixing it for free, and is confused about the cost of materials since a bag of cement is much cheaper than this. He is very confident, but has trouble doing finesse work. If the tile job is straightforward, then I would say you will get your money's worth.
