Worst experience with a repair man.
He came to our house after our service request (documented) stating that our fridge side was too warm and we replaced the fan motor but it still wasn’t working (see pics). He came and opened up the freezer and said that the problem was there was too much dust and ice build up and he had to defrost it and unclog it and that would fix the problem. We asked him if he was sure and he said yes and the cost is 220 and he sees this all the time and that would fix it. He finished cleaning it with his vacuum and used a blowdryer to melt the ice. After cleaning it he then decided to look at the fan since we had replaced it a few weeks ago and listed that in the service request. He looked at it and said the fan shouldn’t run like that off and on. He tried his own fan and said it runs the same way so it must be fine. I asked if he was sure that the fan didn’t cause the ice build up and temperature increase and he said no. When he told us about the fan not supposed to be running like that we googled why the fan runs like this and we read it could be a defrost control board issue. I asked him if he thought this is the problem and he said no. He was getting very angry that I was asking these questions and that he had to explain it to me. I have this conversation with him recorded on video. He started putting everything back and said it should work fine now because he fixed the problem. We paid him his 220 dollars. When he left I texted him a video of the fan sounding like it was still going on and off. He texted me back saying just wait till tomorrow “bro” don’t open and close the fridge (you can see the pictures of his messages). I waited until the next day and the fan and temperature was still malfunctioning. When I contacted him he said to send him the model number. I did that via text and you can see his responses. He told us what the problem was and promised us that he could fix it, charged us so much money and now the problem still isn’t fixed. When we asked for a refund he will not give it to us and blamed us. He is highly unprofessional and a untruthful and we will be filing a consumer complaint, as well as a bbb complaint, a complaint with the college of trades Ontario, and leaving reviews on all forums. His promise about satisfaction guaranteed is also a false. He is a one man business and did an incompetent job in diagnosing the appliance problem, promised he can fix it, took our money and then treated us badly when you tell him it’s not fixed. Hi there,
I got into you house and you told me that your fridge wasn't cooling properly and I came in and I diagnose the problem.
In my diagnose, I found out that the condenser was clogged and has damaged the defrost thermostat and that is why the defrost thermostat not calling for heat to defrost the build up ice on the evaporator.
I explained the process how the fridge works regarding the clogged condenser and calling of heat to defrost build up.
...Upon your approval, I went ahead to defrost the appliance and i changed the defrost thermostat.
After i finished the work, your wife came out to me after about my 45mins work and asked what happened to the fridge and I had to explained to her again while you stood there. And the first question she asked was if I checked the motor and control board to be sure it's working . You then advised me that
1. you replaced the motor (new ) and soldered the wires (which you shouldnot have done because )
2. And that the wires were different from the fridge wires (different colors from the wires in the fridge)
3. and that you had to cut the wires (which i am so sure you didn't off the fridge or you just want to be sure which of the wires color works for each other)
I then told you, what was wrong with your fridge did not require the process you had performed yourself and the method of cutting different wires is not advisable.
I do not work on appliances if customers already perform their own repairs on it but there was lack transparency on your part to tell me before I started working on your appliances. My understanding is that you knew you already caused additional damage to your appliances but you did not disclose that to me.
I tested my fan and noticed it was going slowly but I put back yours and advised you to give it some time considering there is new defrost thermostat I changed and new motor you changed prior to my presence in you house.
You called me 1hr or there about that the fan keeps going slow and fast and i told him to give it some time to see if it will pick and not go slow.
The following morning which was yesterday you called around 10am or so and he said the fridge is still not cooling and i said send me the model number that am now in stoney creek working..
You then sent me picture of what you google about if motor is going off and on and ask if I diagnose to see if the motor was working or not that I should return your money back to. I wouldn't need to diagnose a motor considering thats not the issue for a blocked condenser.
You did not give me time to check the cost of the board but instead insisted i returned your money. And advised you it is not acceptable to me with all the work I did and the defrost thermostat part I replaced.
The damaged caused by you is fixable but you need to pay the cost of the board and I told you it's not in stock. . I sent you an email regarding this this including a screen shot of the part cost but I am yet to heard back from you. thanks.
