Since we purchased our home 10 years ago, I cannot recall a year where we didn’t undertake some form of renovation. A few of these projects were major, others not so much. Some we were happy with, others left something to be desired, and with those we opted for a redo shortly after completion. I often thought of engaging a designer but never did. Instead, we wasted thousands of dollars on redo’s of renovations themselves, furniture replacement, etc. We made very costly mistakes by not having the necessary experience and imagination to ensure our efforts were not in vain and our investment was sound. However, last year, when I was particularly baffled with how to remodel one particular room, I finally decided to make the leap. I reviewed Home Stars and found Margarida (Chic Décor). Am I ever glad I did. My original thoughts for the room involved hefty renovations – adding walls, moving windows, etc. It would have been a small fortune. However, after assessing the room and our options, she presented a very unique design that addressed all of my challenges. Not only did she make the room look fantastic (design, colour, furniture, accessories), she saved me an incredible amount of money. I also asked Margarida to help me decide on a colour for my new front door. The one she suggested was one I never would have visualized for my home, but I decided to take her advice given the amazing work she had already done for me. Am I ever glad I did. It is not unusual for strangers to ring my doorbell to find out who installed my gorgeous door. Margarida doesn’t work alone. She makes it easy to bring her designs to life by partnering with a wide array of talented professionals who are highly competent, courteous and so much a pleasure to work with. These days I’m actually sad to see a project end because I will simply miss working with these wonderful people – I guess it’s time for the next renovation!!! I am so thrilled to have found Margarida. She has had such a positive impact on our home and, as a result, our lives. Thank you Margarida. Monica

Amit recently refinished a bedroom suite and kitchenette set for us. He worked very closely with me to choose the final colours and had ultimate patience! Although I could simply rate him excellent in the final product, as everything turned out beautifully (and at a very reasonable price), what really makes him exceptional is how he handled a misunderstanding. There was a problem with the kitchenette stain - it wasn't the exact colour I had chosen. Instead of arguing about it, his only concern was to ensure my satisfaction and immediately took back the set to completely refinish again. I have dealt with many renovations, and this level of commitment is rare. Amit is a true professional and someone I would very gladly recommend and use again in the future.

My elderly parents ordered lawncare service (cut, fertilizing) from these people spring 2009. They paid for service into November, though my mother insisted November service made no sense because grass does not grow at that time. The woman insisted and my mother finally agreed. There were times they arrived and did not bother to service the backyard and had to be called back to complete. At the end of October 2009 they showed and noted no work had been done because the grass had not grown, yet mom was charged the full service fee. She called the company to demand a refund of the credit balance and to cancel service. She was rudely refused. I then called and was told in no uncertain terms the credit would not be returned and that although no service was performed the last time, a credit would not be issued - she would be charged the full rate. I suggested if they were going to charge, that they should do some work for the charge. She told me they do not mulch leaves with their mowers and that the charge would stand. In my opinion, they have treated my elderly mother with total disrespect. A professional business owner does not lash out at customers. They listen to the issue and take a responsible position. I myself use a great lawn care company and will ensure that my parents are provided the courteous, professional service they deserve next year.
