Living downtown Vancouver and working in Richmond I rarely if ever make it to the North Shore but today with family in town from Calgary we decided to make the journey for lunch to a North Van institution The Tomahawk Restaurant. After lunch we spotted a funky store on Marine Dr called OMG its small. Living in small downtown condo,I was curious and Im glad we all stopped in and took a peak. It was an expensive visit to say the least as I didn't intend on buying a sofa today and my sister visiting from Calgary wasn't looking for a new dining table but we both made purchases. Such a great store and the staff were incredibly fun. They made the whole experience just that... an experience and we look forward to visiting OMG again really soon to find some new lighting. We were totally inspired after we left. Im currently in the market for outdoor patio furniture and the staff at OMG recommended we visit their parent store The Ginger Jar. I haven't been in years and only remembered them for very traditional indoor furniture so it wasn't on my list to visit. Im so glad I did. The staff there were so friendly and accommodating as well. The owner and her sweet pooch Tobi made us feel right at home. The place was packed with people looking for outdoor furniture and the store was filled with pieces I've only seen in magazines or poolside on my travels in Europe. The staff were busy but the owners daughter who was in on her day off took the time to show me around and directed me to a back patio where I stepped out onto a beautiful deck surrounded by trees and a creek and there it was!!! My new patio furniture. It was love at first sight. I have a really small condo but my patio is huge and I wanted the outdoor space to feel like an extension of my indoor space. The entire experience today with the crew from Ginger Jar and OMG was absolutely incredible. The icing on the cake was they were able to deliver my pieces the same day with some major effort on their part at the last minute so my family visiting for the long weekend could help me to break in my new furniture for Canada Day! Its so obvious the difference you get when buying from a family business instead of a large box store. They get it! Thank you Ginger Jar!
