Let me start this by saying this is not my first major reno. We have done serval over the years, ALL of which I ended up having issues with. I fully understand how the process works and that it will always cost more in the end. So I went into this with a casual attitude of length of time for the job to go and that the budget was loose. This is however my first renovation where I would 100% recommend this company start to finish. The first thing to note Is the level of communication Aaron, Justin and Ian provide is what sets them apart. Everything is laid out for you to see and they alway stay in touch to manage your expectations. Questions get answered immediately with clear timelines laid out for you. You are never guessing where the crew is and if they are coming back. And if you are just ask, they will answer you immediately. The second thing to note is the level of respect for your space is bar none. The job site is always protected, tidy and clean as can be at the end of the day. The reno did come in over budget, as to be expected but they way they handle it, it's never a surprise and it laid out on a website for you to see and manage. All of the crew are sweet and respectful. They take pride in their work and try to keep disruptions to a min. No loud screaming, swearing, garbage left laying around or obnoxious music blaring all day on this job site. ( Things I have encountered in the past) The level of craft is excellent and I even went away on vacation and left them to finish up. Something I would never dare to do in the past. I don't like even leaving the house during a reno for fear something will go wrong while I am away. Speaking of issues, should one arise, the crew will do whatever it takes to fix it. We had one small hiccup, a time line crunch and instead of the usual " Oh well, that's just the way it is" their response was to pull all the trades in the same day and push through until it was done. I am beyond happy with this renovation and would hire them in a heart beat!

Tara,
Thank you so much! For the first time I'm at a loss for words. We do try extremely hard to make sure our clients have both a great renovation and an equally great experience; that's the Home Guru way. There is almost always some kind of unforeseen issue when working on older homes but we definitely work hard as a team to find a resolution. You have been incredibly easy to deal with, maybe because this is not your first renovation but your review means a lot to us. It's the reason we do this year in and year out. Thank you for the opportunity to work with you. We know it's hard to choose the "right" contractor to get the job done. We hope you enjoy your new space and we look forward to working with you again at some point down the road.
All the best to you both!

My Mom has a recliner that she refused to let go of. The chair was not reclining and leaning to one side. Anthony answered my service request promptly. He is a fast, friendly and effect communicator. He was ava quickly and arrived on time. I was not here but My Mom said he was a " sweet young man" so there's that. He also knew what he was doing and fixed her chair quickly. My mom is thrilled, so that mean I am too. I kept his phone number for future use and am happy to have found him.

I interviewed 3 companies for the project. A complete redo of our front garden, I had no idea what I wanted, but knew what I did not like. The first two companies were happy to do little, and suggest only simple solutions for my once horrible looking front yard. Keith was very patience and talked me through the entire process. He asked me to give him a price point I was comfortable staying in, and he would design accordingly. He was very flexible and easy to work with, even as I asked to change the design a few times. His crew are hard working, extremely talented, polite and respectful. It's hard to find the craftsmanship of these gentleman these days. The project included, soft scape, hard scape and wood construction. The stone work is beautiful and the wood construction is so solid that the crew had a hard time taking down part of a wall we decided wasn't working. Even as we came across a small hiccup, Keith remained calm and professional, resolving the issue with little disruption to the time line and staying on budget. Unfortunately, a week in he uncovered an issue bigger than expected, (which is to be expected in 100+ year old homes) The new issue required an outside company to come and complete some work before he could continue. This was an issue for me as I was out of town. With in days Keith arranged 2 different quotes for me, with references and was able to book the company I picked, all with little disruption to me. The entire issue set us back only a week and ran so smoothly, we hardly noticed. I currently have a front garden that suits my home. It is beautiful, and timeless. I highly recommend Keith and the Land Effects team. Your home will love you for it.

During a refacing of my front steps, the crew discovered the brick columns holding up our front porch were crumbling, and because of the age of the home (over 110) they were sitting directly on the ground. My landscaper called in two companies. The first wanted all new bricks, and 1/3 more the price. SIA Mason's we will and able to reuse my bricks not only saving money, but recycling and keeping the front of our home the same. They worked quickly and quietly. They were friendly, yet did not get distracted by idle chatter. If the fist set of columns lasted over 100 years, I dare say these will last for 200!! They dug quite deep, using rebar, concrete blocks, and tar to ensure the footings would last. The columns look original, actually better than original, but you would never know it was a redo. These guys know their stuff!!!
