They were doing some home renovation projects for my family up until a few weeks ago. He refused to provide a legitimate contract beyond a chicken scratch note, claimed hours he didn't work, charged for materials he didn't use and tools he should have brought to the job rather than bill me for. I paid cash and he turned around and billed 10% on top of materials because he said "by law" he could. His estimates were never supported, he spent more of my money than he could account for and charged for hours he alleged he traveled to get materials, after we discussed no charge for the trips required to get materials. He argued his hours worked when I have two individuals in my house documenting his working time and multiple video cameras. He would never give any details for the work he did and when he did, it didn't line up with my documentation and recordings. The worst of it, he did such a terrible job, we had flooding in the bathroom and had to shut the water off and all the calking in the new shower he installed fell out of the seams and can't be used then he ghosted my family (won't return calls or come back to fix his mess). He has more than 1k for material that he hasn't bought for the projects left to complete and won't return the money. He bragged to me and close friends of mine how he over charged local people in our community for his renovations (specifically $8k or more for bathroom renos not worth anywhere near that) but would give a good deal to me because he was referred by a good friend of mine.
