I purchased a wood-burning fireplace insert for $2999, plus $613 for inline tubing and parts + $500 for complete installation. I gave a $2000 deposit and set a date for delivery and installation. On the assigned date (July 3rd) two men from All Basics showed up. They went to the fire place and asked for an additional $85 to clean the chimney before proceeding. I reminded them that I had paid for the full installation which implicitly includes cleaning the chimney to provide for insertion of the lining tubes. For a company that has been in this business 24/7 for so many years, it was odd not to mention a word at purchase time about chimney cleaning, unless the installation fee already had taken that into considerations. Naturally I refused to pay. They called the office and left. I too called the office for credit to my account of the $2000 deposit. They said I should come in person. I did so. David, the owner, was waiting for me. He credited my account less $200 for "restocking fee"! His point was that I had to pay for chimney cleaning fee ($85) or pay the restocking fee ($200). When I objected to that logic, he told me to leave his shop or he would call the police! Bewildered of his behavior I left.
