Garage Rebuild

What we thought would be a fairly simple job turned out to have more to it, and Paul was very professional and helpful when providing us with estimates. He suggested several options to decrease costs, was very upfront about all potential costs and kept things in perspective. He gave us time to think about it, and when we decided to forego the renovations, he cancelled the contract without any problem. Throughout all of it we never felt like we would be 'taken for a ride'. We will likely go back to Mainland Ventures when the times comes to add to our house.

Company Response

Honesty and integrity are traits that I not only live my life by but also operate my business with. I have heard horror stories of clients losing deposits and other nefarious tactics if, and when, a contract needs to be terminated. I would not be able to sleep at night if I bullied people in such a way. Rather the contract between us should merely function to clearly state the terms, scope, and responsibility of each party. In your case, after a closer look at the intended project, the scope increased so much that it wasn't a project you wanted to proceed with. No problem. Contract cancelled and deposit returned. Standing by my work, sub-trades and their quality and allowing people to change their mind is in my opinion the ONLY way to run a successful, long-term, highly reputable business. This is precisely why so many of our clients are repeat clients that refer us to their friends and families and become life long friends. Please feel free to contact us again should you require any future home improvement services. I would be happy to provide you an estimate.

Front porch reno

We contracted with MLV to fix the sagging front porch of our 1912 Craftsman home. At first we thought it would be a small project; other companies wouldn't even bid. Paul's team did the exploratory work and discovered deep structural problems, so we did a total rebuild. He handled everything: scheduling the engineers and architects, managing the permits, and ensuring that the right people were at our home on time and with the right materials. The result is built to last and a perfect match to the existing structure, even with a few custom touches thrown in. I've never seen such a well-organized, professional crew, and it was a pleasure to work with them. The project was over budget only because the scope increased from the original estimate, and he was able to preserve our existing roof to save some money. We received a detailed accounting of all expenses.
Highly recommended for anyone who wants a project done right and doesn't want to cut corners.

Pony wall to a doggy daycare

Paul, Connor and his crew were amazing from the beginning to end. Although the job was quoted slightly higher than other contractors but I decided to go with these guys because they gave me the vote of confidence in their workmanship. Paul made sure to have Connor come in to sketch out plans with me and work different options to fit my budget. They even worked on the weekend during the Christmas season so they wouldn't disturb my business! These guys are very respectful and honest....even left my place super clean as if they were never here! Def will use them for future projects.

Fireplace Renovation

Paul and his company came highly recommended to us. He arrived on time for the initial consultation and gave us an estimate and was willing to undertake a very small job. His workers arrived on time, were very courteous, hard working, clean and kept to the work schedule we had agreed upon. The job was completed on time and came in under budget. It looks fabulous and we are very pleased with the result.

Bathroom renovations, garage repair

Having been duped by a bad contractor we were hesitant to trust another contractor. However our experience with Paul and his crew was super. The management of the project was professional and the crew members were dedicated and hard working. We are extremely pleased with the end product and thanks to Paul and the others at Mainland the bad experience we had at the hand of a different contractor has been put behind us. In fact we have committed to a second project to renovate the kitchen and laundry area starting early in January 2015. We are eagerly awaiting this project and look forward to working with Paul and the guys again.

I live in Ottawa but own a home in Vancouver which was in need of a number of repairs and upgrades. I conveniently found Mainland Ventures on Homestars and met with Paul at my Vancouver house while I was in town. I found him to be very knowledgeable, trustworthy, and his estimates reasonable. Throughout the process Paul was quick to respond to phone and email questions or concerns that I had. Work was completed in a timely manner on a tight schedule with excellent attention to detail. I am happy with the work that was completed. Paul kept careful records of work items in our contract, as well as extras we discussed and agreed on, There were no surprises. I would not hesitate to contract with Paul and his company again..

Roof Replacement

Large hole discovered in our leaking roof immediately before vacation. Mainland Ventures arranged for the roof replacement on very short notice. The new roof is superior in quality, the service was professional in every way, and was finished on time and on budget as estimated. We could not be happier with the result. Their quick intervention saved our vacation, and as it turned out, with the subsequent weather changes, saved our house and contents. We recommend Mainland Ventures without reservation. They definitely "went the extra mile" and then some.

Bathroom Renovations

After very cooperative consultations on our renovations, we found that the subcontractors showed up on time, they cleaned up well and were careful causing no damage. The design was accurate in all aspects. The cabinet work was amazing......just what we ordered and more. On the final walk through very few deficiencies were found and they were properly corrected. The final cost was slightly less than the estimated cost. Thank you Paul for a job well done
