BAD WORKMANSHIP: FAILS TO RECTIFY PROBLEMS HE CREATES

Gen Contractor for Bathroom reno/ replacement of exterior ledge. Advice is NOT to use this man. Dishonest, unprofessional, many mistakes, poor shoddy workmanship with trades, does not accept responsibility for problems he creates and does not rectify them., Dishonest overall, does not adequately supervise his trades or ordering of materials and is rarely on site, adjacent rooms to work site were used as their ares for their tools and garbage, were left messy throughout reno. It was a most unpleasant experience to deal with this man and his trades. Hard to believe references! There were many problems such as tile orders done incorrectly by Mike, waiting 3 weeks for tile installation of tile after rough in ready to go, using a plastic board to replace a 75 foot wooden exterior ledge that then warped and cracked because it was not appropriate at all for how he used it (he refused to replace it with wood as he was asked to do in the first place and instead cut it and patched it..lousy job), sloppy messy painting that had to be redone and every night had drips on floor and other places, incorrectly roughed in plumbing that did not allow for the wall tile depth so a 4' x 5' hole had to be cut in the adjacent bedroom wall to see plumbing rough in on the other side, prep for my painter (who has worked for me for 20 years) that was so shoddy the painter called it to my attention, ordering the wrong size glass shower door AND installing it!! So then a 2 month wait until that finally got done CORRECTLY

.The most upsetting aspect of this disaster was that the "plumber" installed the bathroom faucet did so incorrectly: it was loose, wiggly, crooked and within a week water was pouring down the wall. Mike refused to hire back the plumber for months, instead tried to fix the problem himself by adding copious amounts of silicone to incorrectly installed plumbing. A 4-5 week reno dragged on for several months. Then there was no hot water and no plumber ever came with Mike to rectify the loose faucet until 7 months later when there water damage in the stucco ceiling in the 20 by 60 foot living /dining room below. FINALLY he came with a plummber who identified that the tap was incorrectly installed which we had told him 7 month earlier as we had the identical tap, firm and steady with no leaking in another bathroom. Mike cut a 4 X 5 hole in the stucco ceiling where it had rotted and soon would have damaged the hardwood and the Persian rugs! This was 3 weeks before Christmas (began in April 2010). He said he would call in a week and get the hole repainted. We have never heard from him again and it is August now! He does not return phone calls or e-mails. We had the hole patched just before our Christmas events when Mike refused to answer our calls or call to say he was coming. He was informed by phone and e-mail that this had to be repaired NOW and had every opportunity to rectify the damage he had created. We sent him the bill and told him what a repair to the stucco and paining of the entire ceiling would coast and we would have it done in the new year. In March after no contact from him we arranged for that to be done. The patch repair was unsatisfactory because as a dark patch in the ceiling even after two coats of painting the entire huge ceiling. The hole he had cut still showed clearly indicated to us, guests and any future buyer that this house has has plumbing and water damage from the bathroom above. This clearlt lowered the value of our house. Therefore in May, after informing Mik of this entire scenario sand unsatisfactory attempt to rectify the celing stains by patching, we had to arrange for a stucco company through Home Service Club (reputable contractors) to restucco the entire ceiling as patching stucco did not hide the damage. This work to repair the damage caused by Mike's plumber's faulty installation of plumbing has cost us $4000. Mike Vito is a dishonest, unreputable contractor who does not accept responsibility for his work and does not take care of problems he creates.

We would MOST STRONGLY never recommend this contractor

Approximate cost of services:
$25,000.00
