"Andy" asked for a deposit in order to "put together an OFFICIAL quote" to start working on a renovation. I ended up deciding not to hire "Andy" before an official quote was put together and long before any work was scheduled to start. "Andy" refuses to give my deposit back after doing zero work because it cost him gas and time to come out and see the job to give a rough quote. He even advertises free estimates and yet is claiming $500 is for his gas and time.
EDIT: Responding to his reply below
A) There is no contract which is why it's wrong of you to keep my money. B) Posting someone's address just shows people the type of person you are.

Hi Justin!!
Yes, we do provide a free estimate however that applies to only the first visit. In this case, I came to your place 3 times personally, had to pay a drywall crew to come by for a 4th visit ($100), had to buy custom screws for the work ($200), and made floor plans for the job. We had set a start date and after all of that you messaged me at the last minute to say that you wanted to cancel the project. That is why I had no choice but to keep the initial deposit.
