FAVORITE LANDSCAPES

I signed a contract with FAVORITE LANDSCAPES in October 2022 for a 2 car residential driveway for the winter season. I paid my invoices well ahead of time including half the full payment up front and the rest in monthly installments at the start of the month.

His responsiveness on HomeStars is great and he's the only one who responded. His price point was high, but he doesn't use a snow plow and it included the sidewalk and porch. The quality of the work was decent (especially the salting), but the end of the driveway wasn't done well and didn't always leave a proper 2-width car room to get out.

I was okay with this until he didn't show up on a big snowfall. I woke up at 8am to take my kids to school and my property wasn't shoveled. It had been snowing from the previous day's afternoon, so there was plenty of time to stop by. I had also mentioned how important it was for me to have the driveway be cleared by 8am as that is when I leave to drop my kids off at school. We had to make do ourselves, plow our own sidewalk and drive over the snow in the driveway which ended up freezing overnight. I reached out to him to get him to eventually come the day after, but the snow was so frozen, our driveway was a mess for awhile afterwards.

Note that not only did he not show up, but he didn't even let me know that he wasn't coming to give me notice to do it myself before getting the kids to school. He also didn't reach out afterwards to make it right and made me reach out to him and get him to come.

3 weeks later, we had the biggest snowfall of the season. He didn't show up again. I checked my inbox to find a missed message from him asking for an additional $500 claiming salt prices had gone up. Our contractual agreement included salt for the season which was all prepaid. He said if I didn't pay the additional salt charges, he would not only stop salting, but also stop all snow removal service that I had pre-paid for in advance. I was sick and off work and didn't respond within the few days that he had sent the message. As promised, he didn't come by to clear anymore snow.

After having to shovel my property myself, I reached out asking about the price increase and why he stopped removing the snow as opposed to just not salting. He got very defensive and said I signed a contract and I had to pay him. The contract included salt services that I had paid for and there was no mention either in writing or by him about raising prices mid-season. I had paid for about 75% of the season and he stopped snow removal services about 50% of the way through. When I asked him for a refund of the difference, he refused.

All in all, I do not recommend Favorite Landscapes.
