I was contacted by George after submitting a request for an estimate from a contractor through HomeStars.
George and I entered into a contract for him to complete home improvements, including removing popcorn ceilings, painting my home and refinishing hardwood floors. We also agreed he would construct a laundry room. After requesting a 30% deposit, which was provided. He repeatedly asked for an increase in the deposit. He did not begin the work on the date agreed. Instead, he again asked for a further deposit. After I finally agreed to give it to him, he promised to begin the work on the following Monday, but did not show up. On Tuesday, he claimed he injured his knee and could not do any work, so he asked his “foreman” to start the work on our home.
On Wednesday, another contractor came to our home to begin removing the popcorn ceiling. That contractor came 2 days and removed a portion of the popcorn ceiling and then did not return. After I inquired as to what George's plan was to complete the work, he became irate accusing me of being insensitive to his injury and cancelled our contract.
I tried to negotiate repayment of my deposit, he agreed to repay it but would do so over 3 months. When I asked for immediate repayment, he refused, told me to take him to court and then closed down his website and domain for George Developments Corp.
