The following are our opinions and comments towards his billing dated Step 16th 202 Invoice #14903, for you folks that are considering who to hire for electrical needs.
Attached is the Invoice from Dunn's electric in Owen Sound Ont.
please review it so that you can see what we are mentioning.
We have contacted the company which has complete knowledge on our solar system in regards to "man hours" to wire such.
Our project was completely prepared prior to contacting electrical/solar business.
- permanently installed 4 panels on adjustable racks
- wire trenched from point A-B with 6 'extra wire at each end
- 4 batteries at their permanent location inches away from our electrical breaker box
- components were all near work area
Reputable company advises the man hours required:
---------------------
If the wire was already trenched from the array to the laundry room, then you should have the following tasks...
- Hang inverter on the wall and make wiring panel connections via breakers to source AC, battery DC, Solar DC, load AC : 3 hours, 1 person
- Wire solar array modules in series : 30 minutes, 1 person
- Connect solar charge controller to system DC input including any required conduit for DC : 2 hours, 1 person
- Position battery bank & make terminal connections: 30 minutes, two people.
- Program the solar charge controller : 30 minutes, 1 person
- Program inverter : 30 minutes, 1 person
- Relocate loads from main panel to back-up panel : 1.5 hour, 1 person
- Allowance for learning & misc wiring tasks : 2 hours
Total :11 hours
This company was available and did respond and advised Dunn's on any uncertainties.
----------------
- Invoice is not in typed form.
-Poorly hand written and price bundling has been suspicious.
PARTS:
Charged us, $743.55 and $135.80 plus tax for a 20 foot extension cord.
We contacted two reputable electrical suppliers to compare retail pricing and both neared $518.00 excluding extension cord showing an over charge of $225.55 which is huge!
To us figures over retail is the beginning of gouging.
After numerous requests he refuses to show us where all those parts are.
As for the $153.00, 20 foot extension cord......WOW! A suitable 50 foot cord can be purchases for $30.00 at local hardware store.
The story he threw at the BBB is that it was custom made and can’t return it. What the ____! Are they not electricians????
LABOUR:
As you can see in the invoice above, 11 man hours could have easily wired our project but Dunn Electric Mr. Leblanc had different ideas.
Above, Tim was the brain for the project and excellent workmanship and super nice man.
Darrin is a student, learner, apprentice, costing us almost $80.00 an hour.
Let’s put it this way..... IF we had known the outcome of his presence, it would have been a quick denial.
Lots of slacking and numerous errors to boot did not even ground the panels, did not check the outlets etc, etc
Grandma’s purse was so offended!
If that is not enough a third party, Tyler, was sent as another grab??
Professional recommendation as above, is a 11 man hour job to wire this small project, Mr. Leblanc, Dunn’s Electric had different ideas and charge us seniors 21 ½ hours.
We have tried to peacefully reason with this Dunn’s elective dude along with the BBB and he still will not budge with his money making ideas.
Bad experience for us, but don’t have to be for you fine folks out there.
We are limited as we have much more to share but believe you get the drift.
