Review for Narina Construction
Pros: We hired Ashot (owner) for Narina Construction to fix the facade of our house in 2023. With his many years of experience Ashot demonstrates remarkable knowledge and skill for working with wood, facia and other tasks for the facade of a house. He is one of the best out there. We paid him often at the end of the day. Ashot was supposed to drop off some concrete sealer which we had paid for but we did not hear from him and wrote it off as a loss. This was disappointing.
Even though Ashot (owner) can manage excellent work, the unprofessionalism is not worth the aggravation. Hence the grade of 1/10. We completely agree with Joanne from Innisfil (thread from Trusted pros), he (Ashot) took my money and ran. We also fully agree with Stephen (thread from Trusted pros) from Barrie, He (Ashot) has been paid in full, yet the work is incomplete. It seems to be a pattern.
Cons: NEVER EVER PAY UPFRONT. We made this mistake when Ashot knocked unannounced at our door 1 year later. He did not call ahead. He was looking for work and said that he had our concrete sealer from last year, We were pleased that he was honorable and would finally bring it. He said he was tight for cash and that he could use some money upfront. BIG MISTAKE! We gave him $3550 to get started in late April for a 4 day job (still not even half finished). That money was for a roof for our pergola and labour for hand poured cement for a small patio and some small concrete slabs for our walkway.
Ashot said that only he can get fantastic contractor deals. $1500 was allocated to the roof and odds and ends and after weeks we still have not received the roof. We asked for the name of the company and he will not tell us. We practically had to grovel to get him to show up to do some labour. Either he was sick, his phone was broken or his wifes car was broken, which is a remake of the exact same excuses from last year. We ended up doing a lot of the labour ourselves, because Ashot would leave for weeks at a time.
Note: We paid for 90% of the materials and we used scrap wood from our backyard to build forms. over and above the $3550 prepayment. Such as 4 yards of crushed gravel delivered, 3 yards of clear gravel delivered, 12 bags of portland cement and more.
Recommendation: meticulously keep your own track of the hours Ashot works and pay him AFTER he is done and have him sign it off at the end of the day. Pay for your own materials and have them delivered to your house. Leave him out of the loop. We have asked for a refund for the undelivered roof. He never brought the sealer and now tells us that we need to pay him again for it. Ashot is extremely sloppy with receipts and how many actual hours he works. From our calculations, with a generous payout for the hours he worked, we show a refund of $2000. Stay tuned and we will let you know how things turn out.
Ashot will probably say that he worked for practically free and that he does not understand where this is coming from, as per his unprofessional and aggressive, response to other disgruntled customers. If he took the time to count the hours accurately, followed through professionally with what he promisses, he would likely not have any problems at all because when he works it is usually good.
This year his work has been dismal. See attached photos.
We will be cross posting this review to various other platforms because future potential customers should know what to expect before they hire Ashot (owner) from Narina Constructions.
