EV Charger

Eugene came recommended from a neighbour to perform the installation of our EV Charger. He was very professional and helpful. He recommended the charger as well as the placement from our home. He explained the process and worked with us to accommodate it to our mutual schedules. He did a very good job and was very tidy. I would do more jobs with him and recommend to others!

Good guy, generally good-great work, good pricing, now disappointment

Sadly, what had seemed like a great experience turned into a negative one. The initial work went well, a bit messier than I’d have liked but hey re-wiring an old house without ripping down every wire is challenging. Everything was in and working except for a complicated wiring situation in the hall that prevented my preferred solution from being used, but otherwise Eugene went above and beyond. Everything was going perfectly until….. my tenant moved in and a breaker kept tripping. I’d noticed it once before; just though hm power surge, power failure, breaker tripped no big problem that’s why we have breakers.

Tenant reset the breaker. Everything worked. Then I was up in the apartment going through some final finishing touches with the carpenter and the breaker tripped again. I reset it and the panel sparked/arced, and the lights didn’t come back on. I turned the breaker off and called Eugene. No response. Called the next day. No response. Emailed. “Sorry, sold the company, I’m back in the union, I’m moving I can’t help you” so I was forced to pay another electrician to come in and repair the issue, which was that ‘side cutters’ had apparently been used on the conduit that contained the wires, and a sharp edge plus a burr of some sort on the sleeve the wiring runs through to enter the box (protecting against fraying etc) had penetrated the insulation. That, plus a ‘phase issue’ - I now understand why the panel itself had been electrified at one point (done by his unlicensed apprentice at the time) but was told no it wasn’t electrified I must have been confused.

Anyways issue resolved, everything seems to be working fine now, but it’s unfortunate.

Good thing I still have the text messages identifying it as a problem prior to any new work being done on the house by any other licensed electrical contractors.

Hi Will, we were scheduled to finish after you were ready, issues like this in a over 100 year old home happen until looked after. You hired a PM that said he's using his own electrician and that was it. We appreciate your feedback but the work was done great and more then 1 year ago. We believe your new contractor with no electrical knowledge had something to do with it. Thank you I'm glad it worked out. But please next time someone takes over because your timeline changes please don't go after the company responsible for carrying the whole house on their shoulders. As well my guys couldn't access rooms due to vomit in the area we need to work in and nobody but clients mother to talk to. Will disappeared for a month with no explanation except a stomach issue! The review makes no sense to us and we assure everybody that work was done as per our scope , when he needed other illegal rental areas done with no regard for building separate dwelling codes, he hired a PM that said if we don't come the next day , he will use his electrician. That's when I got calls and I couldn't proceed with the work at that time and my time wouldn't work due to him saying he is too busy, he has to have them rented out with a weeks notice . We apologize Will but this review is false and makes no sense especially cutting through pipes with side cutters . We still appreciate your input and anybody reading this , clients are all different and pleasing some for free and not by the book is illegal for us.

Everything seemed great….

Eugene is a good guy; talks a mile a minute, funny, good at what he does and offered competitive pricing. This understandably left him very busy, which meant his apprentice was left to do much of the work. Fine, he seemed pretty good at what he was doing, everything got done roughly on time and on budget and Eugene handled (paid, of course) add ons easily as long as we accommodated budget-wise and in terms of timing.

However there was a moment where I got zapped by a secondary panel on the top floor that had been wired by the apprentice. I was treated like I was crazy (I’d used my multimeter and tested it and it was live) but the issue seemed resolved. Fast forward 8 months and a breaker keeps tripping - it only feeds four LED light fixtures so it wasn’t a load issue. Then when reset the breaker I now notice a spark or arcing each time (so I leave the breaker off) and reach out to Eugene. Oh sorry I sold the company and I’m moving and I can’t help you. So I call around and find another electrician, have to wait four days with my third floor having no lights in the stairs, closet, hall or bathroom until they come in. In one hour they diagnose that the apprentice cut the conduit incorrectly leading to compromised insulation and also a phase issue. Repair done, no more sparking/arcing, done and done.

Bringing things up to code

I recently had a sump pump installed that needed its own electrical outlet as having it plugged into an extension cord is really not a good idea. After reviewing several companies on HomeStars, I contacted Eugene who responded very quickly and was able to complete the job at the agreed upon date and time. It's refreshing to get a company to come when they say they will and complete the job without any issues. Thank you Eugene. I already plan on having him back to install some spotlights in my basement.

Excellent electrical services on condo unit

Wow... I'm blown away at how awesome of a job Eugene and Dermaine did on my condo unit. I had multiple pot lights installed on different rooms and electrical outlets installed in washrooms. The potlights looked amazing and the electrical outlets were fully functional and in the exact locations I want to be. From start to finish, Eugene was very transparent, honest, and informative with me. He will come visit your place and quote you on a price for the job. During the visit, Eugene was respectful of the covid situation and had procedures to ensure I felt safe. When the job was complete I was shocked that there was no holes left in the walls and everything was spotless and cleaned up. 10/10 would recommend to anyone in need of electrical services.

Greatest Electrician Ever

Eugene and his apprentice, Dermain, are great! Not only are they extremely easy going and friendly, they also put in high quality work and provide reliable and trustworthy service!

Eugene alone is a true master of his craft. His care and dedication shows through his work and careful planning. For my work, I had 16 pot lights, a dinette and an island pendant light installed, my kitchen rewired, and loose cables from a wall removal project rerouted and tucked away. During the service call, Eugene reviewed my blueprints for the kitchen and made sure everything was perfectly aligned with the future kitchen to be installed. At all parts of the project, he made an effort to be on time (even following a large snowfall), kept me informed of what was happening, and notified me of expected completion timelines and unexpected issues.

Eugene and Dermain also respected the space and work of the other tradesmen on site. He would always leave the room with everyone smiling.

For the quality of work, you definitely get value added for what you pay. I cannot stress enough how fortunate I am to have Eugene as my electrician. He will definitely get recommended to anyone who asks me for an electrician!

Amazing Service!

I am sooo happy that I chose Evolve to do my electrical work. My wife and I purchased a new dryer that uses a 240V connection and 4 prong plug where as our old one only used a standard 2 prong 110v wall plug (yes, very old). We called around to many electricians who couldn't even come to quote for a few weeks/months. Eugene came the very next day, gave us a quote and booked us in the following week to do the work. The work was tricky as the electrical panel is on our main floor and the laundry in an upstairs closet. Eugene and D showed up on time and did an excellent job on this tricky gig. They cleaned up after themselves, patched everything up and overall did an amazing job! I highly recommend them and will most certainly go to them directly the next time I have any electrical jobs to be done.

Thanks Eugene and D!

Ethernet and Electrical experts

I had the guys from Evolve come in and install 6 Ethernet runs from all over the house to a dedicated server rack in the basement. Also, I had them run 4-way switches and pot lights to be controlled from both side of the king size bed. They did an excellent job, and were very easy to work with. I asked a lot of questions, and they were not at all bothered.

Friendly and honest.

From the first contact with the electrician I felt put at ease. After several quotes from other companies I was almost dreading yet another terrible experience, boy was I pleasantly surprised. He was early to do the initial assessment (called first to make sure it was alright) and went through his pricing speaking in clear terms while pointing out things I hadn't thought of. Though the initial estimate ended up being low (needed to add an additional appliance to make things up to code) I was never blindsided by an increase without a phone call. While his professionalism in the job couldn't have been better the whole experience felt like I was dealing with a trusted family friend. Will definitely recommend to anyone who asks.
