Amazing work, attention to detail, honest, beautiful craftsmanship. Mike and his team are fantastic! Gail is the real brains behind the operation, she has wonderful ideas and is very creative.

I hired Benchwood Builders to turn my large, over sized, oddly laid out third floor bathroom into two more functional and updated bathrooms. Mike went out of his way to walked me through the entire process from understanding all my layout options to helping me select materials and even coming with me to various showrooms. It wasn't any easy space to work with but Mike manged the project efficiently and professionally. The whole Benchwood crew was very professional and always respectful of my home. The quality of work and their professional team of experts made my renovation experience completely stress free. I highly recommend Benchwood Builders and will definitely be calling them again.

My bathroom was tiny and the biggest negative to the house.
Mike added footage to the bathroom by taking space from my bedroom. Turned most negative room in my house to arguably the best room.

His staff is top notch, all friendly and respectable individuals.

The "firm" $8000 quote for a basement bath reno became over 25k after I had to tear out all of Mike's illegal and not to code plumbing work. He is not licensed to perform plumbing, he has no ticket for this. His work was found to not meet code in 5 significant areas, requiring it all to be torn out and replaced by the Ontario Building Code inspector.
Worst, as soon as I questioned his work, he pulled his people from the jobsite, no offer to "make it right" and issued an invoice for 8k more than the full job price, then slapped a lien on the property.
Full on lawsuit happening, this guy is a dishonest contractor and not nearly as good as he thinks. Get inspections and ensure he does not exceed his scope as a licensed carpenter.
Think of the first ten minutes of every "Holmes on Homes"... Mike/Benchwood represents the "before" it gets done right.

We had Benchwood Builders completely renovate two bathrooms. One main floor powder room was renovated an expanded to include a shower. The other one, an upstairs family bathroom, was renovated to have a refreshed appearance and the main doorway into the bathroom was expanded and replaced with a barn door. We are very happy with the final product and we absolutely love our two new bathrooms, not to mention the added value to our home for going from a 1.5 bathroom to a 2 full bathroom home.

Mike and his team were very nice to work with and we always felt safe and comfortable speaking with them and being around them, as well as having them in our home to complete the work. They were always respectful of us and our space and put us at ease with the project. Mike took an active interest in all of the choices that we made and often made suggestions for materials that would work out even better than what we had thought of in order to obtain the look we had in mind. He was always available to discuss any questions or concerns that we had and assured us that no question was a "dumb" question.

The older house we live in was never changed from 1957. They gutted the basement moved plumbing and put in new ductwork and electrical. The bar was a surprise design that I love and a mantle over the new fireplace was a gift, a handmade piece.

Mike is a true professional that will work within your budget to give you exactly what you're looking for. He possesses qualities not easily found in contractors. He's honest, trustworthy, talented, quality-focused, and he surrounds himself with people that share his values.

Our project started with us looking for someone to install flooring in an 80 year old home that we purchased in Niagara-on-the-Lake. We were thinking of doing some renovations to update the home but decided to hold off mainly due to the fact that we didn't know any contractors in the area and weren't ready to embark on any major renovations until we found someone we could trust. When we found Mike, it was with the intention of only installing new flooring in the house. When he was working on the flooring, we got to know him and his crew and we started discussing our other ideas as well as budget.

Needless to say, what started as a simple flooring project, turned into a full-out renovation of the main level and making some updates to the second level (new doors, trim and Mike applied his expert craftsmanship to modifying new closet doors to accommodate for a sloped ceiling). Mike and Gail's (his lovely wife) floor plan ideas turned out to be perfect for the space limitations. The extra touches they also recommended are now our most loved features, such as the wood beams in the dining room and open kitchen. We converted a main-floor bedroom into a much needed hall closet, wider entryway and a large bathroom with a beautiful custom vanity and large shower.

The new kitchen is now the focal point of the home with a modern layout, huge island, yet still has that "cottage charm".

We'd like to thank Mike and his crew, Leo and Matt, for a wonderful job. We would definitely work with Benchwood Builders again for any home reno project, big or small.
