Asphalt damaged by basketball hoop - DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY
In August 2024 we hired AHS to remove and replace the asphalt on our shared driveway with our neighbour.
2 months later we discovered that our portable basketball net had begun to sink into the asphalt. After contacting the company we were told When driveways are newly installed, it's best to avoid placing any sharp objects on them, as they are still in a softer state.. However, we were never informed of this during the estimate or installation process during which our basketball net was on the driveway and seen by the project manager. The company even moved the hoop onto the street before starting the job.
When the work was completed we were told we could walk on it after 48 hours and put the car back on it after 3 days. There was no mention of extra time needed before putting back the basketball hoop. In any event, we waited for 5 days after the installation before moving the net back on the driveway.
After noticing the issue in October we moved the basketball net a few inches over from where it previously was and then noticed that after a few days it has started to sink again in the new position, despite the fact that more than 2 months have passed since the installation was complete. At this point we were told Asphalt, especially when newly installed, requires approximately a year to fully cure...While asphalt is ideal for driveways and parking, it is not designed to support sharp or heavy objects beyond vehicles. This is the first time that this was ever mentioned to us. Had we known this we would have never had asphalt installed.
AHS then suggested to us that we should get a new in-ground basketball hoop, advice that we did not ask for, or to install a new interlocking or concrete base for the portable hoop to rest on at an additional cost to us. When we asked for an estimate for the cost of that we were told that it could be installed next Spring and have not received any further responses about the costs involved.
Overall, we are extremely unhappy with the service that AHS provided and their responses to our inquiries, We highly recommend that you AVOID AHS AT ALL COSTS.
