In the spring of 2015, we contacted Nevada Construction to tear down an existing deck and build a new one. Nevada came highly recommended. Owner Nick Casiero came to the house, we discussed what we were looking for and later in the week he forwarded a proposal. After a few minor tweaks, all was set.
Work began in April 2015 and was completed on time and agreed upon budget. This is when the fun began. We noticed as it started getting warmer in the spring and summer of 2015 (a month or two after the deck was completed) that the deck was not weathering properly. Top deck boards started to cup, others started to warp and still others started to split.
We contacted Nick to come and take a look deck. He made appointments that he never kept (4) and after finally getting a hold of him again on the phone, he said this was natural and to wait until the end of the summer as the boards need to go through a season to acclimatize. We reluctantly agreed (big mistake). As the summer progressed the problems kept getting worse. Added to the problems is that the deck boards now started to develop larger than normal gaps.
In September of 2015 (4 months after completion) we again attempted to get a hold of Nick to come and see the deck and see what he recommended. Again after several texts and phone calls back and forth, he agreed on 3 occasions to come to our house and never showed.
Exasperated, we went through the winter and before spring of 2016, we, for the last time, attempted to get Nick to come and see the deck. You can guess at this point how successful we were, three appointments set, all no shows.
In May of 2016, we stained and sealed the deck as recommended by Nick and his partner after they initially finished the deck the year before. So what do we have now, the boards are still cupped, still warped, still split in some spots and still have large gaps between them. It looks terrible. We are ashamed to tell anyone we have over that the deck is only 1 year old.
We dealt with Nick Casiero and his company Nevada Construction in good faith. Paid in full and what did we get? A company that does not stand behind their work. An owner that makes promises and doesn't follow through. My advice, STAY WAY. Stay FAR, FAR AWAY from them.
