From the moment that we met Mike, he was always positive, energetic, knowledgeable, fair and reassuring. We met a number of people that said they could renovate our home and change the way it functioned with a three level addition on the back of our home, giving us ~50% more square footage: In the basement, a main floor family room, an additional bathroom, a complete hotel oasis in a primary bedroom with walk-in closet as well as rewired a complete home office for two that has become the envy of all my co-workers. Not to mention that we also needed to change out all of rads as well and renovated an existing main bathroom upstairs.

Before we start to talk the details of the project though... I just want to say a couple of things that you need to understand about Mike as a contractor/person. I appreciate that he says what he can deliver - it is refreshing to meet someone as honest as him, in any profession, but within contracting, he is a rarity for sure. He came in on time, and on budget... so right off the top, I can say, we recommend him to everyone that we talk to about our renovation.

Now the details of the job, Mike started this renovation during the pandemic with the only certainty is that nothing is certain. Mike remained calm, worked his network to make sure that everything remained on schedule and that supplies were always secured in advance. Never once did we question - 'what's next?', 'where are the trades?' or 'are you behind?'. They worked weekends if they started to fall behind to make up for any delays.

From the tear down onwards, he treated my property like it was his own. To illustrate that point - when Beechwood was putting up the roof on the extension, Mike noticed that the insulation was relatively less than he would like to see, so he made sure that his team blew in additional insulation on the old part as they were doing it to the new part. Now that is something that we still talk about, especially during the winter - he didn't need to do it, but he did, because he cares.

He underpinned the back of my home as the new basement is lower than the original basement. But yet, as he started with the finishes, he made sure both levels tie in perfectly to each other. It is funny to us as we now use the old part of the basement more than we ever did before as well.

Mike and his team even went the extra mile to make sure that everything flowed well on all floors, replacing lightning to make everything is consistent, or made the trim match as well as he could between old and new. And that's another point about Mike and Beechwood, they DO SWEAT the little stuff. They care that everything is the way I wanted it. But that all said, he is not afraid to also share his opinion if there is a better way/design to do something. Because of this, he saved me from putting in a wall that would have made the basement not flow as well.

To sum up, if I was on this site looking for a contractor I would definitely give Mike and Beechwood a call, you will be glad you did. They are wonderful to work with - to be honest when it ended, both my wife and I joked that we should move, buy another house and get Mike to renovate that one as well.
