Injection of basement crack

It was reassuring to get a firm fair quote (unlike the company that did the initial cleanup) and very importantly a lifetime warranty for an injection repair of a foundation crack that had let in water that destroyed our new laminate flooring. Service was prompt and professional, Thanks Crack Doc.

Leak in basement

About 9 years ago I had a crack in my basement and the water was pouring in. I called the Crack Doctor because they had come highly recommended. They promply came and fixed the leak. Last year (2012) the crack started seeping again and they came out and repaired the problem (their guarantee is for life). About 2 weeks later another crack appeared in another part of my basement and flooding occured. I called the Crack Doctor and was told that they could not come out for 3 days. I was very upset as I was leaving for a 10 day holiday before they could come to repair the crack. When they heard how distraught I was about the bad leak in the basement, they arranged for someone to come later that night. The young man who came was very professional and quickly fixed the problem. I am thrilled with the work that the people from the Crack Doctor do in relation to the problems that I have had with leaks in my basement. Each time they looked around the basement walls to see if there were any other problems that might arise. I would highly recommend this company to my family and friends.

Internal French Drain Install

I had the Crack Doctor come and install an internal french drain with sump pump in my home. The home is 65 years old with a block foundation, and I had a flow of water into my basement in the spring.
Due to the slope of my property, only two walls were affected by the problem.
I had more than one company come and assess the situation and the Crack Doctor gave me several options. They were clear that an outdoor waterproofing would be ideal, but I did not have the capital for 75 feet of external excavation, waterproofing, and remediation of the landscape. The internal option sounded good.
The sales guy was knowledgeable and not pushy, which was nice.
I booked the call and the workers who arrived were on-time and pleasant to have in my home. They were very careful about cleaning up their mess and giving me thorough updates about work completed on the project.
At the end of the day, it has been money well spent with a bone-dry basement since the install, and a 20-year warranty which is transferable to the next homeowner.

$5,000.00
What could this company do to improve their services?
I sent a couple of emails after the service was complete with questions about my new product and did not receive a response.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
This is a good option and was beyond my skill set (I do most repairs and home improvement myself). Got with a professional for sure.

Basement Waterproofing

DO NOT HIRE: The Crack Doctor is an awful company. The gave me the best customer serive I';ve ever had PRIOR to signing that deal to waterproof my basement. Once they had my bisness, it all went downhill. The sales rep had no idea what he was doing and misinformed my on the prioce and financing options. The work took way longer than expected and the company charged me more for the extra tims somehow. When we demo'ed the basement and found other HUGE issues, and I asked for a day off from their work to have other prefessionals (plumbers, electricians, etc) take a look, the owner, Michael, threatened to SUE ME for breach of contract. The job was complete but not satisfactory. My basement now has a 3 inch slant throughout, due to their poor grading of the internal drain system. Their product does come with a lifetime warranty however, and I have not had any further water in my basement, but whenever I call them to ask a question or request them to come fix their sagging membrane, I get the worst customer service ever! DO NOT HIRE!!

Foundation Crack

We had water in our basement and had crack doctor out for an estimate. They felt they found the crack on the outside, and quoted us $1200 for a 4' repair or $2000 for a 10' repair.

Being responsible home owners we decided to do the 10' repair and scheduled them to come out at their first available appointment.

They arrived on time and started digging the giant hole around our foundation at a 10' wide by 7' deep could not find the crack and determined that there was no proper drainage at the back of our home.

At that point Michael was called to come out and determine a fix. He came out and said that it was $700 for them to walk away right now or $3200 for the whole fix which included installing another sump pump in our basement as well as sealing the walls.

My husband told them he had to speak with me (I was at work) and I felt I needed to talk with a couple of people about whether or not this was the best solution. Michael told my husband his crew would not leave without getting paid the $700, I felt pressured and rushed to make a decision, my husband gave him the credit card number and they left - hole still open in the backyard.

We decided to go ahead with this option and called I hour later to schedule and were told they would call back with a time.

The next morning my husband called to follow up and we were told the next available date was 3 weeks away.

I called and spoke to Michael explaining that I didn't feel comfortable with this hole in my backyard, and expressed how pressured I was to make the decision and that I wasn't sure why we had to pay right then instead of being billed as they were coming back to do the work anyway.

Michael told me that was the cost of doing business, and then proceeded to be very rude on the phone and finally hung up on me.

We will never use or recommend Crack doctor again. This is Canada, if I don't pay my bill take me to small claims court that is what our collections and judicial system is for. People shouldn't be pressured into make 5 second decisions about the welfare of their home and last time I check (as I work in A customer service industry) this is not they way to treat your customer.

Company Response

Hello Stephanie,

I will tell you our side of the story, since you were not present when the job was being done, and you did leave out some facts about what actually happen.

As you have stated, you had originally contracted us to come out and do 10ft of exterior waterproofing. When we arrived, our guys got to work and effectively dug out the section of the wall that needed to be repaired.

Once they were at the bottom of the footing approximately 7-8ft down they noticed that the hole kept quickly filling with water. It was discovered that your weeping tiles were not present in some parts of the house and the rest of the weeping tile present was not draining the water because they were blocked.
As waterproofing experts we know that this is a problem that will cause further water issues that are not solved by simply waterproofing the 10ft section of the wall.

We advised your husband about it and provided a solution by installing a sump pump in the area to connect new weeping tiles to it which we would provide and install in order to pump the water away from the foundation.

This is the most cost effective solution, as the other option would have been to replace all the weeping tile around the house. This would require extensive excavation and an average cost of $20,000+. Much larger than the cost for the sump pump.

At this point your husband stopped our workers from doing any further work while a new price was being discussed the new task at hand.

After our operations manager (Denny not Michael) arrived at the scene, they discussed the problem and the new total price of $3195+tax was given for all the work to be done. This is an increase of only $1200 to not only install a sump pump but also for an additional 4-6ft of further excavation.

At this point, your husband thought the price was too much so he asked Denny how much it would be to walk away from the job and not finish it.

There were four (4) workers working that day and it was already past 12pm. So the price of $700 was concluded to be a more than reasonable price for the effort that was already put forth in completely excavating the area that needed to be waterproofed originally. (10ft long, 7-8ft deep)

Again your husband believed this was too much so he called Michael to further discuss the price. Meanwhile our workers were standing by waiting to see if your husband wanted to go through with the work or not.

After about 1hr he came out and advised us that at that present time he did not want us to do the work. He asked us to write him up an invoice and estimate for all the work to be done and for the $700 charge for walking away without finishing.

We wrote the $700 as a deposit for the total cost of $3195+tax job to be done because he told us that he was most likely going to go through with it. We had no problem with this and did so. This means that you would not “lose” any money for the extra day we spent working at your house if the work was completed by us.

Before we left, our guys started to fill the hole back in but your husband stopped us and told us to leave it open because he would most likely have us come back to finished the job anyways. So they left it open as per his request.

This is a very busy time of the year for us, so our schedule is booked up weeks in advance. Unfortunately it happen that the next available date to do the work was a couple of weeks later, and the earliest available date was given to your husband when he called in.

We are sorry that you felt pressured in this decision, but all the dealings in the day in question happen with your husband James who did not express the pressure that you were feeling. Our workers left that day on good terms with your husband. In fact he even offered our workers beer before they left.

At the present time we still have you in our schedule for Oct. 9th, 2013 to come back and do the work. We were a bit shocked to see this review, especially when we tried to accommodate your needs.

exterior and interior water proofing and weeping tilesand

I hired The Crack Doctor to install an interior weeping tile system and repair part of the exterior weepers at my home. The work was carried out on time, as promised and the workers were friendly, informative and worked diligently to get the job done. They cleaned up after themselves and were by far the most efficient tradespeople I have ever hired. I will recommend them to anyone needing their expertise. Many thanks for making a tough job proceed painlessly.

Foundation Cracks, basement leaks

I had Vitalli come in from The Crack Doctor. He was professional, personable and knowledgeable. He was unwilling to make sure the job was not done right, and made sure he went the extra mile to make sure that I was happy with his work. I am happy to recommend The Crack Doctor, andif need be (sorry but I hope not!) I will call on them again. Thanks!

basement crack repair

I am very pleased with the service provided by The Crack Doctor. They are very professional and courteous and they did a great job of fixing the leaks in my basement wall. They were very quick to respond to my inquiry on a Monday and had someone out the next day to fix the problem. They phoned me a few weeks later to follow up and make sure that everything was ok. . I highly recommend them and will use them again if I encounter another problem. I have also recommended them to a friend.

Foundation Crack Repair

My wife and I hired The Crack Doctor to repair some cracks in our (now previous) house.

We were pretty unimpressed by his work. All of the quoting and work itself was done by his crew (we never met the "doctor" himself).

Several cracks ended up leaking after the initial injection. Each time, the crew returned and attempted to re-inject the cracks. One crack, in particular, had been filled 4 times previously, by which point I said: "Enough is enough, I'll pay you to patch this from the outside." While the crewman was convinced that this made sense, it took substantial convincing to get the owner to acquiesce to this request -- he was on the phone with the owner for some time. (And I should clarify that this wasn't a question of payment -- I was more than willing to pay; I think that the owner simply thought that there would be more profitable ventures for him elsewhere.)

In terms of the overall job ... I felt that they did a poor job of cleaning up after their injections. Most other foundation repair companies trim the excess down and apply a mortar-like patch on the inside to keep things clean -- The Crack Doctor did not.

All told, I was pretty unimpressed.
