Our backyard is an oasis, but even oases (oasises? oasiae?) need maintenance. The stairs that originally came with our deck were rickety to begin with, and 11 years of rain and snow didn't help.
On top of that, we had acquired a small predatory animal, who thinks she's a LARGE predatory animal. We needed gates at the two entrances of the back deck to keep her from wandering and keep other, REAL predators from getting in easily. And hey, if the gates added an obstacle to the squirrels that elude our great grey hunter so easily, so much the better!
Enter Steve and his team. Plumpton Sons were recommended to us a few years ago by another contractor, but we didn't have occasion to hire them until now. I messaged Steve, he came over and assessed the situation and provided a written quote quickly. We were impressed at how quickly they were able to start work (despite being hissed at by the aforementioned predator).
The stairs were added, using metal stringers and solid 2" planks. They're great. The gates were trickier; a cement piling needed to be added to stabilize the gateposts. Retrofitting gates onto an existing deck fence/railing didn't look easy, but Steve and his team managed it. When one gate didn't open in the direction we expected, Steve and team adjusted it to our satisfaction.
We were really pleased with the result of the work and the experience working with Steve and his team. Except for the cat. She's indifferent to everything except food.
