Wow!

I couldn't be any happier with my sunroom. I have very little experience with contractors but for this being my first big remodeling job on my house I have to say I am very pleased and my sunroom is very sharp looking. Matthew was so informative and patient with all of my questions (and I ask A LOT of questions) and the man who did the installation was very nice and even helped me hang some planters outside on my house. I had my sisters over on the weekend and it was just wonderful sitting in the sunroom with the windows open while it rained. Thank you Openview!!!!!

Pergola Install

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY.
I signed a contract with Open View Home Products. Paid a $2073.21 a 35% down payment to construct a pergola attached to the house and standing on the back deck. The owner of the company took all the dimensions and we chose a pergola from his catalogue. After waiting 5 1/2 months, the install was started. I noticed a 2"x10"x14' wooden plank resting against our triple 7 ft. high x 9 ft. wide sliding patio doors.
When I asked the foreman where this was going he indicated above the sliding doors and attached to the house. I said you may want to look at this again as there is no space above the sliding doors, only the soffit & facia.
The foreman concurred and said this pergola could not be attached as it would cover the sliding door frames and about 3" of the glass in the doors. Long story short, the foreman called the owner of Open View Home Products and relayed the problem. They were told to bring everything back to the shop in Niagara Falls. I left multiple e-mails and phone messages for Open View Home Products over the next three days. NO REPLY. I went over to his plant and when I confronted the owner at his plant, all he had to say was "WHAT?" I asked what are you going to do next and his reply was "WHAT DO YOU WANT?" I said a pergola or my money back. His answer "NO REFUNDS," read your contract. I had my contract with me, it had no mention of refunds. I indicated then that I should see a lawyer. His reply "GOOD LUCK WITH THAT JUST SUE ME." Later that day he sent me an e-mail offering a free-standing pergola or "my money back.' I indicated that I would like my money back and he said "I'D RATHER TALK TO YOUR LAWYER, HAVE HIM GIVE ME A CALL. Now after two registered mailings from a paralegal to settle this out of court, he has yet to respond to either letter. This will soon be going to Small Claims Court. Owner has yet to visit our home to understand the logistics of the problem.
WARNING: BUYERS BEWARE! DO NOT USE OPEN VIEW HOME PRODUCTS. You may get taken as I have. BBB rating is F, the lowest that the BBB can assign.

Never installed product!

Very bad experience. Contacted Openview about getting a Pergolino in 2019. It was delivered late in the year and I paid Maurice (owner). We agreed to reconnect in Spring 2020 to get it installed. Spring came and I contacted Maurice and he gave me the run around and then never returned any calls or emails. Now I am stuck with a product I cannot install and am dealing with the manufacturer. I dont even know if Openview is in business....if they are, take your business elsewhere.

DO NOT use Open View Sunroom! The Owner is dishonest!

I had a 9x12 sunroom installed in late October/November 2017. I was impressed by their product and price even though a friend in the window and door industry recommended that I not use Openview. Maurice was initially very helpful and friendly so I decided to go with them.
It took many weeks after the promised date to have the project done, there was always an excuse as to why. The weather, no employees, he got married etc. In any event the sunroom was eventually constructed and I promptly went into the office and paid the balance owing. There was a 30% payment before starting which I gave him immediately

Approximately 3 weeks after installation I noticed that there was a leak from where the roof of the sunroom joined onto the existing roof, which had been replaced just prior to the sunroom addition. (August 2017). I immediately contacted Maurice and he told me to take a picture which I sent to him. He promised to come and fix it.
After a numerous amount of phone calls, and emails (over 2 years worth) there were more excuses as why it wasn't done. That's when he would answer back

Eventually January 2020 I took the matter to the BBB. They tried their very best to help me rectify but Maurice eventually insulted them and they realized that even they couldn't help me. He blamed my roofing contractor even though I reminded him that the roof was done prior to the sunroom, on purpose. Complete diatribe to the BBB regarding my roofing contractor. The roofing company even offered to come out at the same time as Maurice for the repair, but of course he changed his tune and said that it was not necessary and he would be coming to fix the structure properly. (the roofing contractor told me to give Maurice a chance to fix it). Back and forth through the BBB he again gave his word that he would fix it. Just reviewing the original plans, the sunroom should never been attached directly to the roof. Excuse after excuse after excuse. Promise after promise after promise.
I followed up with Openview about a month ago, regarding his promise to make right, by email and he told me at that time, he had sold the business, but was still coming to fix the leak when his employees returned to work on June 1. The following week I went to speak to him at his office. I was greeted by a nice lady who later Maurice told me was his daughter. He did not know that I had already spoken to her about his selling the business, before he came out of his cubicle and she was obviously puzzled at that.
A few weeks ago, I received a money saving magazine in my mailbox with a full sized ad for Openview and guess what??? He has audacity to have the BBB logo in the ad. Open View is not BBB accredited whatsoever and my next step is to let them know about this and ask them to publish my case so the general public can make an informed decision. There are similar complaints as mine on this site and also homestars which is another forum that you can rate a business and leave a review.
I have put off for the longest time doing reviews on this place but do not wish the same thing to happen to another potential customer

Terrible customer service

I had the owner Banngs come over and discuss the project with me, he indicated no problem, and even suggested a couple of good points. Took a while to get here, two different crews were on the job. One crew talked about the others work, that's when I knew things were going to go south. The latter crew who completed the work, I had to provide tools. They left the site with all kinds of cuttings on property, no clean up, or good bye. I provided water as it was terribly hot that week. The job discussed and the end results were far apart. Numerous attempts made via email and visits to the office. Problems were wrote down by the woman in the office, she actually knew me on a first name basis after a while. The owner said last fall, he would correct issues in spring, so I waited. Sent emails, he indicated in the spring "soon" It's been a year now, and this company has yet to repair. There's dents in the covering, area's not caulked, extra holes in beams(mistakes), the caulking in area above the pergola looks like something they'd do on remote industrial roof application, just outright poor workmanship. My biggest mistake was I should have held back funds. Sending a report the BBB soon. The only time this owner responds is when he see's reviews like this. I more than welcome him to come back here and review the problems, I think he's afraid to view whats gone on here. For some reason, he tends to think its the aluminium wrap the first crew put on the pre existing structure, it is not an issue, it's what was installed after that, we look out our window on top of the pergola, and almost puke of the workmanship. I think I'll post pictures soon, once I figure out how to.

Pergola installed over deck

Maurice came to our home in Smithville Ontario in April 2017 to give us an estimate for a roof over our deck (pergola) which attaches to the roof of the house. He explained how it will be built and showed us samples of colours we could pick from. He was very nice and helpful. After reading "Open View" reviews (with the exception of 1 negative review) we decided to go with this company. On April 24, 2017 we paid a deposit of $1,305.00. On July 5, 2017 our pergola was completed and we went to the office in St. Catharines and paid the balance in full immediately. Despite 2 issues which they came to fix everything was great! Approximately 1 month later there was a small area which was leaking rain water where the pergola roof meets the house roof. We called the office and informed the girl who was working there at the time of this issue and she suggested we put tape marking the area in case the installers came to repair while we were out. to this day the tape is still there and one one ever came to repair. Now the whole width is leaking every time it rains! The channels in the roof are filling with water and stays there and now are dirty and moldy green. After MANY phone calls to their office (always a different girl answers) we give our name and address and they look up our order/complaint file and they repeat to us our issue without us having to repeat it each time so our issue is being documented in the office. We have never had a return call from the installers or Maurice himself even though we have left him messages on his cell phone. The summer of 2018 the original installers showed up out of the blue to access the issue and said that the issue registered with the office staff was never relayed to them, so how did they know to come to our home? I told them i was getting ready to register a negative review and they said they would be back in a couple of weeks. Never saw or heard from them til June 4, 2019 when they showed up again out of the blue. This time they measured for a new roof and explained that it wasn't installed properly. No flashing was installed under house shingles and over pergola roof to create a run off as there would be a barrier for the rain to run off and prevent leaks.I phoned the office and spoke to Rose to check that a new roof was ordered which she confirmed was done June 6, 2019. She was very helpful and sympathetic that we were going through this for 2 years (now coming up for 3 yrs) On Sept 26, 2019 I spoke with Rose again about the new roof installation and to this day have never seenor heard from installers or Maurice. My final message I left for Maurice on his cell phone was expressing my concerns of his lack of customer service and also that we have 4 friends who are interested in having a pergola installed but stated that in good conscience I cannot recommend his company. I guess the loss of 4 potential customers isn't a big deal for him as we have never heard from him. In the negative review we had read at the beginning Maurice responded to the customer that he would not be "blackmailed". Not sure what the customer said but from what we've been experiencing maybe it was a last resort for that customer. I hope you find this review helpful in your decision to use Open View and also with this review we hope to get some satisfaction. If we don't we'll be sure to leave another review as there are plenty of companies who would love to get your business. Surely this is not a professional way to run a business. Sorry that i haven't included pictures but not computer savvy and not sure how to include them.

Replace sunroom roof

Do NOT use Open View Home Products! Maurice replaced the roof on my 9*10 foot sunroom and instead of replacing the old galvanized gutter and downspout, he removed them, put the roof in and put the old gutter and downspout back on. They split and the roof leaks where it is attached to the house. In addition, he did not attach the gutter on the sun roof to the gutters on the rest of the house so the water runs directly into the foundation. All of the other gutters and downspouts on the house had already been replaced along with the roof. Because the sunroom has a very specialized roofing system, the roof and gutters needed to be replaced separately. Even though Terry, the person Maurice sent to investigate the leak admitted that moving the gutter and downspout is what caused them to split, Maurice says they were my gutters so its my problem. I paid Maurice and Open View Home Products over $3,000 for this job! I have offered to cover materials and even a small amount for labour, but Maurice refuses to even discuss fixing the problems even though there is a simple fix. DO not use Open View Home Products!

Company Response

When I first met Gina I recommended that she needed Eaves trough hers where old and rusted Her response My house needs everything she said she did not have any extra , A year later she complained that her eaves trough where leaking and blame us for it . I told her our contract was to replace her rotten sun room roof and install new insulated panels with new eaves trough on sun room only
I sent my foreman to the job , she ask him to drag old railways ties to the front change direction of the downspout which he did . after he was done she turn on him she said she will get new eaves trough or will black mail us into it, I refused to be Blackmail
I do have before and after picture I would gladly show to people or email to prospective clients
we did everything according to contract I have thousands of job and satisfied clients feel free to check out our web site openviewsunrooms.com and see the quality & pride of our workmanship
