Iron Owl Design + Build

Thank you, Justin and Logan, for the nice patio you built for us. From the moment we met Justin we knew he is the right guy for our project. His attention to details and care for our yard won our trust. The project was very well planned and the execution was perfect. The quality of work and professionalism is what we appreciated at Iron Owl. You can see the difference when a contractor owns the company and cares about his clients. We are very happy with the result and we can’t wait to enjoy our new patio this summer.

We were very pleased with the work recently completed by Iron Owl. The project is in a very visible front yard in a highly-trafficked neighbourhood. We needed quality work beyond what we could do ourselves, and Iron Owl delivered.

Right from the very beginning when we were seeking quotes, Justin himself visited to understand our concept. By grasping our vision, he was able to provide improvement ideas and alternatives, which made our project better before the first shovel hit the ground. He did not push any particular solution and left all decisions to us, and was able to provide solid reasoning behind his suggestions. We especially liked that the person thinking through the project with us would also be executing; many of the larger outfits send an estimator that won't actually be leading the construction crew.

When it came time to actually execute the project, Justin and his team worked in a diligent and well communicated timeline, keeping us regularly up to date. They kept a very tidy work site (in a somewhat challenging, tight spot), which was important given this work was done in plain view in our front yard. All of our neighbours remarked on how nice they were during the day, and how careful they were of those around the work site. Justin works with a small crew, which means it doesn't get done overnight, but it also means you have a chance to make key choices along the way as challenges and ideas come up. Justin kept in regular touch with us by whatever was the most convenient way for us - e-mail, phone, whatever was needed in the moment. When weather interfered, Justin was very clear with how the schedule would change. No excuses or wondering what was up; we were always well informed, and very supportive of his choices, which were always grounded in making the project as good as it could be.

The end product exceeded our expectations, and frankly compared to other similar projects I've helped with or observed, the construction is bomb-proof and built for the long term. On top of that, the craftsmanship around the small details separates Iron Owl from the pack. There were many opportunities to take simple shortcuts, and instead they delivered a high-quality project that they can be proud of, and that we are thrilled to share with our friends and neighbours.

Justin and Sara exceeded our expectations! We are impressed with their professionalism, friendliness, and attention to detail. The project was completed on time and as appraised. The scope included, brick patios and walkways, artificial grass, planter boxes, bridge across stream, composite decks, gravel and mulch landscaping, steps, fence, storage boxes, custom rock fire pit, retaining wall, drainage systems. Wonderful design and exceptional quality.

Justin was not only professional, but one of the only contractors who showed up when he said he would and on time! He went above and beyond in the quoting process, showing us different options, as we didn’t want just a standard fence.

Our deck needed replacing. We did our due diligence and got three quotes. When we met Justin, I said to my husband "I hope his quote comes within ballpark of others, because I really want him to do it"... happily he was not only ballpark, but more reasonable than the "budget" guy. You know immediately that Justin takes great pride in his work. Even though this was a pretty basic deck, his creativeness shines through. Excellent workmanship, quality of product, no shortcuts, sensible advice. In short, I would have no problem at all hiring Justin (and Logan) again for other projects. They were professional and respectful of the property. Highly recommend.

We hired Justin originally in 2014 for a sizable backyard landscaping stone and privacy wall project. We can't recommend him and his crew highly enough. They are prompt, professional, very neat and respectful and do outstanding work. Our backyard still looks fabulous four years later. We re-hired him this summer, 2018 to replace our front sidewalk and step. He had great solutions for a step and sidewalk that used to slope toward the house. He added invaluable technical and construction advice as well as creative and artistic touches which resulted in a lovely final product! We can confidently say that you will be extremely happy and satisfied when you hire Justin and his crew!

Justin and crew have been nothing but fantastic to work with. Every step is well explained and reasoned out, every decision is made with care and consideration and they have done their best to work through even some of the sudden and unfortunate weather swings that Calgary gets to have.

Quality of work is second to none. Every facet from the stairs, driveway, fences, backyard all are very clearly built to last. Designs are elegant and very pleasing and there is clearly a great deal of care and work that goes into the project.

We recently hired JM Landscapes to update our tired and un-used backyard to accommodate our collection of cars with a custom-designed interlocking-brick patio/parking pad. This included the rebuilding of the fence as well as, since the parking pad ran from house to alley, reconstructed flowerbeds and some new sod. It was a big job but Justin and his crew handled it beautifully including being at work first thing in the morning, keeping tools and noise well controlled, being flexible about on-the-go design changes, and contributing to integral design changes with innovative ideas. One of our favourite additions to the plan was a tiny man-gate on the garbage bin recess so that we could access the back alley more easily. Justin also oversaw the installation of a Shed Solutions tool shed when we could not be home to do so, and took on the construction of a greenhouse for us.
JM Landscapes were recommended to us and we could not be happier with the finished product and how it progressed. Justin and Sara are knowledgeable, generous, cheerful, and very easy to work with – a great team – and the price was more than fair. We’d recommend them to anyone.
