after searching around we decided to hire Biscaya Home, and we're really glad we made that decision. as we are extremely happy with our bathroom renovations. Bernardo and Brenda went far and beyond to fulfill our expectations.
They are very professional, always on top of every detail, giving us the best possible advise. we won't hesitate to contract them again for any renovations we require and we would recommend Biscaya home to all our friends.

I contacted Bernardo and Brenda for the first time recommended by a friend. Since then, they have been our first choice for any renovation work in my home. Actually, this is the third contract we gave to them.

They and their team were very responsible, respectful, very careful on the details and committed to deliver the best in quality.

Also, they were very assertive in their recommendations they made prior to start the job. Their experience in home renovations has been very important for us.

The kitchen was finished as we expected and as always we are so satisfied with the finished job.

I hired Bernando and team because they provided a reasonable quote and where knowledgeable. They even provided guidance and suggestions. All was managed on time and with perfect care. I really liked their finishes and workmanship. They upgraded our brand new apartment with new light fixtures, kitchen backsplash, bigger and brighter shower, wood floor installation, and some other fixes.

Based on favourable HomeStars reviews and a friend’s recommendation, we contracted Biscaya to renovate two bathrooms, install hardwood flooring in the main living area and replace ceramic tile kitchen flooring, a $35,000 project including the cost of materials. The quote we received from them was not the cheapest by any means and some parts seemed downright overpriced (for example, the cost of trimming 1/4 inch off a bed room door was $80 + HST). We agreed also to onerous payment terms - 50% of the total contract before any work was completed and the remaining 50% immediately as each stage of the project was completed. By doing this we gave up our rights under the Ontario Construction Lien Act by which we could have retained 10% of the contract price for 45 days after the project is done. This Act helps ensure the quality of the work and also protects consumers in case the contractor doesn’t pay the sub-trades or suppliers working on your project. The first three weeks of the project were a honeymoon. Brenda and Bernardo are to be commended on both their knowledge and design taste. The work done by their employees and contractors was excellent. My spouse and I also did our part by remaining close and making ourselves available for the many decisions that were required as the project was being completed. For example, when a bathroom wall was removed, some studs were not even and we paid a hefty $700 to have the 10 or so studs replaced. Communication was pleasant and productive. However, the final week of the project turned into a drunken sailor race to the finish and relations became unpleasant. For example, the fridge and stove were replaced over ceramic tiles when the floor grouting had been completed less than two hours prior, a kick plate clip of the kitchen cabinet was broken (I spent many hours obtaining new part and repairing it), the handle of the fridge was broken (Biscaya was unable to repair it properly and, after six weeks, offered a financial settlement), doors were leaned directly against treasured oil paintings, furniture was not properly covered which resulted in horrible dust throughout the house when existing ceramic tiles were removed, a broken wheel of the fridge was found on top of it (Biscaya denied any responsibility), a small arithmetic error was made in a computer-generated invoice (Biscaya refunded me the amount when I pointed it out to them), flooring transition pieces fell off within a week of installation (subsequently reinstalled but one still loose) and, most important, Biscaya refused to complete a small part of the contract that had been verbally agreed to. We paid a separate contractor nearly $500 to complete it. Promises of work and completion dates were met with excuses and Biscaya retreated to strict interpretation of the contract wording. For example, “provision and installation of hardwood mouldings” meant that factory primed mouldings were installed with no filling of installation nail holes and no additional painting over the primer. In short, I was quite surprised that Biscaya would risk their reputation with behaviours such as this. They pointed out subsequently that there had been health and criminal issues that had a negative impact on the timing and completion of their work. Nevertheless, I do not believe that it should be necessary to resort to name calling and threats of a Consumer Protection Act complaint (both by me) to have a project completed. I would advise strongly that any future client of Biscaya to be well aware of and exercise their final payment hold back rights, insist that any contract spell out in writing every single detail of work to be done and have any larger contract reviewed by a lawyer. I have noticed that within previous HomeStars reviews, Biscaya rigorously rebuts any complaints about their work. However, I have pictures and other evidence to back up my comments and any member of the public is welcome to see them.

I recently had our fence removed and a new fence installed (approx) 144 linear feet). The workers were very efficient, polite, respectful for the property. Unfortunately they were not able to use the auger due to rocks and had to dig all holes by hand. We were very impressed on how hard everyone worked on a extremely hot day and still finished the job on time.

Renovations can be a challenge while still living in the home, but Bernardo and the Biscaya team were very profession and understanding of that fact. The project included 3 different areas in the house, master en-suite, structural work over the garage, an additional basement bedroom and relocated laundry room. We are very happy with the results in all areas, especially the new master en suite and large walk-in closet. The project was completed on schedule and we were well informed throughout the renovation.

I don’t like home renovations, I like the result but I feel the work by itself is a hassle. The dust, the dirt, people walking into my house, having to choose from a gazillion options.

A friend of mine recommended Bernardo and Brenda and – from the first exploratory conversation – I knew I have found the right contractor. I gave them a general idea of how I wanted the renovated kitchen to look and they quickly understood my expectations and needs. They provided options that were aligned with my thoughts so I didn’t feel overwhelmed with the choices and – most importantly – they didn’t try to convince to purchase overpriced items. They were very clear about what was high quality vs. trendy-only.

Bernardo and Brenda were very detailed oriented, always on the top of the work and fast to respond to my questions.

I was prepared for the unexpected, as I have an older home and I’m glad they provided regular updates during the day, including a couple of unexpected events and – most importantly – solutions.

My job doesn’t allow me to deal with constant phone calls and meetings during the day. Hiring Biscaya was like having my own project manager! Brenda and Bernardo were always available, and on track in terms of budget and timelines, which made me save a lot of time and money in the long run.

I can say that select Bizcaya Home as my contractor to renew my basement was a very good experience. All team was very committed to doing their job good and putting their best effort to reach the best quality standards, always keeping the time as the north.
The kitchen was finished on time and was what we expect, the bath charming as we expect too, the rest was paint and minors details on the walls that were fixed it before the paint was done.
Only left to say that it was a really good decision pick Bizcaya Home to take my project ahead.
