I used David to do my home inspection before I bought my home a while back. Overall, he seemed friendly and competent. I found during the inspection he was rushed and eager to get to his next appointment. Which was unfortunate. He did spend 2 hours on the inspection, but at the same time this is a major decision (buying a home) and understandably buyers will have questions as we are relying so heavily on the inspector to make a decision. He also refused to go on the record with his information. The report he provided was in-depth but lacking in some areas.
Where I am truly surprised and disappointed is that at one point I pointed out an uncovered ceiling electrical box with exposed wires. I asked him if the wires we were seeing in the box were knob and tube. He very clearly and confidently said, "No." At the time, I had no idea what knob and tube looked like, but had heard it can be problematic to have in the house.
As it turns out, it was K&T. And now that I am more familiar with it, it was very obvious from looking at the box that it was K&T. David either did not know (which isn't really possible as he had accurately identified it in a previous situation) or he was too rushed to pay attention or plain opted not to tell me. Either way, I can't recommend him if such a critical error was made.
This could have been a very serious problem for me financially but more importantly for my health and safety. Luckily I figured it out before anything happened. This is why Home Inspectors need to be properly regulated.
