basement renovation

I have worked with Wish List home renovations on several projects in the past with fantastic results every time. Wish and his team are professional, fastidious and well-priced for the wide range of services they offer. Without a doubt Wish List Home Improvements have added to my popularity as voted Burlington's best designer by my clientele - thank you Wish List Home Improvements from myself and our many satisfied customers for all your efforts!

Basement Renovation

A terrible experience gutting and renovating our entire basement!

Delay after delay and excuse after excuse we finally ended up firing Wish List Home Improvement. We are still paying for his poor workmanship. We expected that the framing would have all been relatively close to plumb but that has not been the case. We have brand new door openings out as much as an 1 1/4" from bottom to top when measured at the studs that this guy did.

This guy is more of a weekend warrior then a professional contractor.

If you remember the doors were custom order and you gave us the measurements. Because that door was so far out simply shimming the door jam would not work because it would have made the door opening too small for the custom door. One side of the jam was put up to indicate the poor workmanship. The drywall had to be removed and frame moved back in order to get the custom door in.

Not sure what me gutting the only small room in the basement has anything to do with it as it was ready before you were supposed to start....not that you started on time nor was there 18 days notice. The whole family left the house the week you were supposed to start specifically so that you could do the removal of the wall which was expected to cause a lot of dust and noise. That Monday we expected you to show up but found out for ourselves that you didn't. Only to have you start more than 2 weeks late...There seems to be a theme here. Any other delays were not followed up with reasons just that that's the way it goes with renovations and we were to suck it up.

Yes we were happy to see you go after the framing was complete but only wish that we had not hired you in the first place. Fortunately for us the plumber, hvac, electrician, drywaller, and painters were all great and delivered what they said.

Not interested in bickering with you. We were simply unhappy with our experience with you as a contractor and wanted to share that with other home owners looking to renovate.

Company Response

Craig , sorry to hear about this one stud, its something we could have fixed for you in minutes. The picture you sent me of this door did look out of square, but I did notice that drywall, and painting has been done(by others), this is not the approach we would have taken, we definitely would have framed in door jambs prior to drywall installation, sounds like you had another delay in choosing your doors, also your picture shows only 1 vertical jamb, in this scenario, we would have installed completed jamb set , so this picture would not be a true indication of problem. I think I do need to refresh your memory though, as it was you that gutted your place so you can save money, yes , there was a delay on starting, but I did give you 18 days notice , with the "excuse" of my dedication and commitment of finishing present project prior to starting yours. Also , I do believe I still have the email where I presented you the solution to our differences in which we should part ways on completion of framing, which you graciously responded with a "yes", this was also on the insistence of my lawyer who recommended the proper way to terminate the contract.
I was referred to you by your mother in law , in which I built her a beautiful basement and you hired me on the work that you saw there, I believe I have proven my professionalism there.
