First Choice Fence

We needed our fence and gate in front to be replaced and first choice fence came in much lower than the other quotes we received. They were also able to get this done quickly as we needed the work done before our concrete contractor was to start on their portion of the Reno. First Choice Fence was quick and affordable while still providing good workmanship. I would recommend their services.

We recently had a 65 ft wood privacy fence installed (pic attached). Pretema at First Choice Fence called me back the same day I called her. We spoke about what I wanted and she gave me a quote over the phone (what they charge per ft). To have this estimate was very helpful as most companies do not want to commit but First Choice stood behind their quote which I greatly appreciated. This saved the company and me time. She told me they would start within 5 weeks and this was true, we had our fence sooner, within 4 weeks. We are very happy with the customer service of Pretema, her husband and their crew. They gave suggestions what would look best and I appreciated their professional feedback. The fence is solid, aesthetically beautiful and exactly what I was looking for. Job site was clean after. I would not hesitate recommending them to neighbours and friends. Thank you again Pretema for your hard work.

We contacted several companies to do a fence between 4 neighbours, and First Choice came in at the best price so everyone decided on this company. We all deeply regret our decision.

Primarily, there were several delays due to weather. This is not in their control, however communication between the company and myself (I coordinated for all 4 households) was awful. We would be given a timeline, and when that time came I'd have to call and follow up, only to hear of another delay. I would stay home expecting them to come the day they said, only to call after 10am to find out they were not coming and were only then getting around to calling their customers. Very unprofessional communication.

The poor communication was just the beginning of what we consider to be a very unprofessional job. Our Bell line was cut, and although we don't currently use it, the foreman told me she would call Bell to have it fixed. It's still in pieces over 3 months later. One of her workers used our washroom a few times, and left it in disgusting condition. Some of the posts were not set deep enough, and most of the posts are cracking and splitting in several places, making us question the longevity of the fence as it has only been 3 summer months. Some portions of the fence are not level, and the boards are nailed on in a very sloppy fashion. One board fell off of our one neighbour's fence the very next day, and they attempted to get ahold of the company but never heard back from her so ended up fixing it themselves.

When it came time to pay, the foreman was very disorganized. She had no paper with how much we owed, so I went out to do the math with her. She continually messed up the math, and thankfully I had done it before I met with her so I was aware of the actual deposit amounts otherwise we would have overpaid.

And finally, when they left the job "done", our backyard was a mess. There were a few fence post bases in concrete from our old fence still sitting in the back yard, tons of nails, debris, etc, half eaten sandwiches and food wrappings, and cigarette butts. We had 2 small children at the time (I was 8 mos pregnant with #3) and we were unable to allow them to play in the back yard until my husband was able to clean up their mess. They left nail ends exposed in our neighbour's back yard as well on their side of the fence, and she has a child as well. Things were left in a very sloppy condition, both the fence itself as well as our property.

We have been warning our friends and neighbours to never use this unprofessional company.

The only upside is that the fence looks decent from far away, when you can't see the nails and cracks. Lets hope it lasts...

I needed to have about 32' of my fence and gate replaced as there were rotting posts and my gate fell off last winter. Pratema gave me the most reasonable quote out of several contractors I contacted. They were pretty behind schedule due to weather, which is out of their control. However, I would have preferred more proactive communication after putting down the deposit especially since the expected work date was delayed several times. At times they were definitely difficult to get a hold of as my calls were not returned.

Once they came though, they did a good job taking down the old fence and putting up the new fencing (brown PT). They built me a nice gate with a pretty solid looking latch which I'm pretty happy about. The new fence looks great and the wife likes it too. Up close, I noticed some of the boards had some splinters or curls but I guess I can't expect perfection.

They finished within the day and overall I'm pretty satisfied and glad that the fence will be ready for the winter.

The original work done was good, however, there was a fence board that changed colour. Contacted Pratema in June 2017 to have the board replaced as there is a one year warranty on the fence. It is now October and still waiting to have the board replaced.

After waiting a few months due to rain, we finally got our fence. They removed the old (very ugly) chain link fence, and in two days, even with the biggest storm on one of those days, we got our fence.
I returned home from work, and there it was!
The team were extremely professional, focused and very pleasant to deal with. Pretema was right there mixing cement, and she was present for the entire project.
The price was very fair, and I would definitely recommend this company.

Very happy with our new 36' wooden fence and really, really small gate! Job was done on schedule as promised (even with all the rain we've had this season) and looks wonderful ... we are enjoying the privacy and love the stained pressured treated wood. Many thanks to Pratema and her crew!!

Highly recommend First Choice Fence. Pratema was very helpful and her crew did a great job removing our 20 ft long old fence and putting up a beautiful new one with gate. A lot of companies wouldn't quote because the job was "too small" but this was not a problem for First Choice. Great company and people to deal with. Thanks!

Great people to work with, they were easy to contact and completed the job when they said they would. We are very happy with the board on board I-top fence they built for us. Excellent price! Will use them again!
