Main floor removal of existing floor and installation of engineered wood.

Since our house was very old, the nails for the original floors were coming out, there were lots of squeaks and uneven floors so we wanted to get rid of the existing floor. We bought our own engineered wood to be installed. Adam came by for an assessment and made some really good recommendations which we went with.
We loved the results. So glad we went with his suggestions. The floor was so even and so quiet to walk on!

Some great service elements: Adam was punctual during the renovations. He gave us status updates during the process, was very knowledgeable and professional. The place was all cleaned up after the renovation as well. The job took two days. The attention to detail was really obvious. It was a great bonus that Adam tried to save us a box of flooring to help us save some money.

Thanks again!

Hardwood Install in living room and Rec Room

Tycan Flooring was the flooring installation company used by the vendor of my hardwood. Adam and crew were very professional, courteous, and fast. They managed to do a 2 day install in a single day, with quality work. I would recommend Adam. Pride in workmanship is evident in how he completes his contracts.

Laminage floorong and baseboards

Adam took out carpet and existing flooring from my 2 bedroom condo. This involved removing baseboards and putting in new ones. He actually almost had to cancel because of a car accident (van in the ditch because of snow in Collingwood), buy somehow borrowed a truck and did the job in time. The flooring looks great. The total cost included materials. About 600 square footage of flooring was done. The job was completed in two days. The only thing that I don't like is that the transition pieces are glued on. Now there is a piece that broke during a furniture delivery, and I can't find the right transition piece! Aside from that, I am very happy with the work. Adam works hard.

2nd floor hardwood installation

We wanted to replace the builder wall-to-wall berber carpet with hardwood on the second floor - about 1100 sf. Ideally we were hoping to accomplish this within a 7-8K budget but once we started shopping around for hardwood it became evident that it would be a challenge to keep the cost that low. Main floor and stairwell are already hardwood. Although we expected that we wouldn't be able perfectly match the main floor hardwood it was important to us that the transition from stairs to the newly installed 2nd floor be as natural as possible. We went shopping at different suppliers and the lowest cost for hardwood (red oak, 3/4" thick - width was unimportant either 2 1/4 or 3 1/2 was fine) was still running~ $5/sf.
We also needed to source an installer. Adam came recommended from a colleague at work so I reached out and he was able to come and discuss the job with us (we had quotes from other installers as well). The job had quite a few things to consider:
1) remove and dispose of carpet
2) move furniture
3) put on new trim (we weren't going to initially but opted to go with new stock prior to project start).
4) wood supply
Adam indicated a preference for Canadian sourced wood as the quality was better and more consistent than China made (based on his experience). He also had a supplier that would provide a good deal. This sounded appealing to us and his quote for labour was very reasonable considering the extras (carpet, furniture moving, etc). We booked him and prepared our house (lots of displaced sleeping for a few days).
The first day of the project we discovered that the wood that Adam was able to procure wasn't a close match to our existing floor. We never got together to colour match prior to the project which ended up being an issue as now we had no wood and a second floor all prepped to go. A was fortunate enough to be able to find a supplier with who was able to provide the required material within 3 days although the cost ended up being higher than what we had budgeted with Adam (goes to prove the rule about the cost of renovation - leave some budget for the unexpected). Adam was able to re-schedule other jobs in order to accommodate this delay and went to extra efforts to ensure that the project completed as quickly as possible.
In the end my wife and I are very satisfied with the job Adam did. The floor looks great. Even though we went over budget due to material issues Adam went the extra distance to try and provide whatever extra efforts were needed to get the job done. I would not hesitate to recommend Adam and his team.

Engineered hardwood in downton Toronto condo (1bdr + den)

Adam and Miles did a great job laying down 550 sq ft of engineered hickory click in my condo. The floors are super flat even though couple of rooms did not have an even concrete. Adam went an extra mile to shave off the bottom of the sliding doors that didn't fit after floor installation due to thicker underpad used. The apartment was cleaned in the end and I was given a walk-through with explainations/recommendations. Adam was honest about sq footage and materials used and was easy going about minor miscommunications. I would highly recommend Tycan to anyone looking for a quality flooring contractor.

New Hardwood Floors and Stairs

We bought our new house, in Barrie, a year and a half ago. It was broadloom throughout except for 1/2 the main floor, which was natural (white) oak hardwood, which we loved for it's different shades and wood grains. Nicole hates carpet, so we decided we would remove it and replace it with hardwood that matched the existing flooring. This proved more difficult than we expected, as everyone seemed to be carrying red oak, not the white oak we needed to match our existing flooring. After months of searching, Carrie at Flooring Liquidators (Tycan Flooring) finally found us a match. We made the decision to finish the main floor and all of the 2nd floor as well as refinish the stairs. We couldn't be happier with the results. Adam, a self-admitted perfectionist, did a fantastic job and didn't even flinch when we decided to make a change to the stairs in mid-install. Rather he agreed it was a positive change and was "excited" to do it. He worked on it like it was his own home. No detail was too small to matter. The results show. Thanks Adam for your indulgence, professionalism and attention to detail. I would (and already have) highly recommend Adam and Tycan Flooring.
