Johnson Playfair Brick & Stone Masonry

I hired Johnson Playfair to remove some existing concrete and replace it with paving stones at the back of my house. My experience with them was amazing! They responded right away, were prompt and professional when we met at my house and they obviously had a thorough understanding of their trade. They provided me with a few options and price points and once we had agreed on a product and price they moved quickly to begin work. Their crew was courteous and considerate to our home and neighbours, they cleaned up everyday, were on schedule, on budget, and did an Incredible job!! The project looks great, I couldnt be happier, and I will be recommending Johnson Playfair to everyone I know.

Matt from JohnsonPlayfair approached us a few years ago to do some badly needed brickwork on our 1886 Victorian home in Parkdale.

We knew that considerable work had to be done and engaged Matt repair the façade and parapet walls. He did an excellent job and blended in the new bricks with the original for colour and parging. Even though some of the original brick shapes were no longer available, he was meticulous in maintaining the Victorian feel.

After this we hired him to replace a main outside bearing wall which I had great concerns about as it was crumbling and hazardous to those walking or driving beside it. Matt and Brendan could only approach the wall from a shared driveway and arrangements were made with the neighbours to have this clear for 8 hrs a day. Matt had to organise the work in such a way that he could drive a scissor-lift each day and do sections of work. He had to have it all cleaned up by 5 pm...so not ideal circumstances. He did an excellent job.

I am now working with Matt on another project and have full confidence that he is an excellent craftsman with a great understanding of controlling costs and being on time. I would highly recommend him. By the way, some of the pictures on the website show the work he did for us.

My husband and I were very pleased with the craftsmanship and professionalism exhibited by Brendan and Matt of Johnson Playfair. We set out our issues and concerns and they explained and dealt with the issues that needed to be dealt with. They knew their stuff. They showed up and were prompt and completed things in a timely manner. They also cleaned up after each day which is a huge number "1" in our books. Matt is a pleasure to work with. He tackled the restoration of my coach house that an engineer wouldn’t go into for fear of it collapsing. He was very accommodating and conscientious. He followed drawings drawn up by a structural engineer (a different one from the scaredycat, lol). I got a few quotes and Matt’s was very competitive. He’s a problem solver and did stuff beyond masonry for me. Scheduling was negotiated and delivered on. He even did stuff like managing an ornery neighbour. I highly recommend him.

Matt and his team are professional, highly talented and great to work with. We hired Matt to build a Pizaa Oven, and had only a prefab oven kit to start with. Matt worked with us to design and build what turned out to be a beutiful oven that matched very well with our home and landscape. He was very accomodating to changes and had some great ideas as input to the final design. The pricing was competitive with other quotes, but the primary reason for going with Matt was his attention to detail and high standard of build quality, which was proven in the final product.
