Ontario to Alberta Move

Here is our encounter with Trillium Moving and backed up by dozens of images we shared - this was literally the “move from he**”…virtually every aspect of this move from the time our furniture and effects left our house until delivery at our new house in Edmonton was a nightmare!

We have been moved professionally dozens of times (for military and personal) and have had a wide range of moving experiences, but none have rivaled what we endured in this instance. We assert that Trillium have not met the minimum standards they claim to follow. Consider the following as quoted from their website:
o Trillium is always striving to ensure our quality standards are maintained and exceeded…
o How and when would I file a claim? Unfortunately there is a rare occurrence of damage during the moving process. Once damage is noticed you should immediately inform your sales representative to inform them of your intent to submit a claim, as claims must be submitted within 10 days of the delivery.
o We will contact you 24 hours in advance of your moving date to sort out final details and to ensure you are prepared for the arrival of your moving crew
o Once your shipment has arrived, our office will contact you to plan your delivery or storage needs”.
o “When a planning a long distance move remember that the cheapest company is rarely the most efficient company, and though price is one of the 2 biggest factors when planning a move, ensure you are choosing a company not only with a reasonable price but with a high standard of service and a good reputation.
o We have state of the art equipment and trucks, our storage is clean, climate controlled, secured and protected by video surveillance. With our GPS systems in each of our trucks, we are able to update you on the location of your goods when requested, and keep you up to date with the ETA of your shipment.
OUR move experience failed on these points as well as in the more fundamental aspects of care and due diligence. Please consider the following regarding our move:
• Delivery was more than 3 hours late despite prior assurances the date/time had been confirmed.
• When the truck showed, the driver claimed additional funds were owed prior to unloading. This was the first we were hearing about additional costs; further delaying the unloading process.
• Over 10% (33 items) were not delivered and could not be located for more than a week
o Less than 1/2 of the missing items were delivered; most with visible damage
o Movers tried to deliver items that belonged to another customer . Were we charged to store those items? That is not clear to us.
o still not received the remainder of our possessions - we have been charged moving, storage and delivery. Why were we charged storage fees for items that could not be located on move day AND continue to be missing???
• over 80% of our boxes had visible signs of damage including punctures, rips and crushed
o many boxes clearly marked “FRAGILE” were loaded onto the truck at the bottom of tiers including many loaded upside down
o widespread evidence of lack of due care, respect or professional treatment. These are documented in multiple images, many of which have already been passed to Trillium
o numerous items showed evidence of dirt, scuffing, water damage, including water spots, wet areas under bubble wrap and mold. This clearly does NOT demonstrate clean, climate controlled storage and handling of our items.
• Even though we paid extra to have our items bubble wrapped, they arrived with the wrapping torn, chips and dings in the furniture, and bookcases "crushed" beyond use
o damage was done AFTER Trillium movers in Mississauga wrapped them, else it would have been noted by Trillium movers
• we did not enter into this move contract expecting our possessions to be man-handled and treated with the total disregard, disrespect and careless approach that we received
• lack of professionalism why the Edmonton based company magnified when
o they refused to place boxes in the proper rooms insisting they will put all boxes in one common room or will not move the boxes into the house at all
o they refused to assist with set up or placement of any of the furniture
o did not have any floor protection to put down indicating it gets in the way of their dollies
We find it ludicrous that the amount offered ($151) does not even cover what we paid to Trillium to have the missing items (that still have not been located and delivered) shipped to Edmonton and stored until the originally planned delivery date. We would have been further ahead if we had just taken those items to the dump!

In short, the move was a horrible mess and we expect a reasonable attempt on Trillium’s part to put things “more right” than what they offered to date. Trillium asserts their offer of $151 is all they are required to pay based on the coverage in place for the move and that which is required by regulation. They want your money and don’t care!!

Approximate cost of services:
$9,000.00
