Recently required a blower replacement on a 9 year old Keeprite furnace. The HVAC technician from AFG was courteous, well-groomed and seemed well-informed. The need for a replacement blower motor was obvious (burning plastic smell; howling/whining noise from the furnace) and was confirmed within 2 minutes of the service call. I was surprised therefore that the $99 cost for the service call was is not then deducted from the labour cost later.
I was told that the repair could maybe done later that evening once the blower motor (very standard part) was picked up from the supplier. I was disappointed that after waiting several hours at home that evening, I was told the wrong part was left in the lock box by the supplier (excuse? maybe). We booked a repair for the next day between 12noon and 2pm. The tech did not show. I called and was told his ETA was going to be closer to 4pm. Still no show. Finally after calling again, AFG showed at 4:30pm.
The blower motor cost $420; capacitor replacement $65; and labour: $160 (with no deduction for the $99 service call that took 2 mins).
Total with HST: $840.72.
Total hours waiting for AFG to show up over 2 days: 8.5 hours
I also expected information about the replacement parts and the warranty (for parts and labour)- didn't get any. Just a payment receipt.
At least they take credit cards....
