Leon was recommended by a friend who said he did 'decent' work at a competitive price. He gave a good quote and then began to build our deck in stages. By the time he finished the project, all of the cedar was a different color and when we asked him to assist with finishing it, or even just recommend the best product to weather proof it, he said, "Oh, I don't do finishing" and added, "You don't want to do anything that requires maintenance, why don't you just let it go grey?" We found this very odd, given that the word 'finishing' is on his business card! We further found it odd, given his refusal to work with anything but cedar, including pressure treated wood that might better stand up to our weather.
Leon repeatedly went ahead and completed parts of the project without being clear or explicit about what he was planning on doing. When we saw what he had done, we asked him to remove or replace it with what we actually wanted. He replied to us that what we wanted would "look dumb" and he also got very angry with us stating that he was "tired of having to do everything twice." Of course, we asked him to simply run things by us in person before moving ahead and he just seemed unable to do this.
We also later learned that our friends had hired a new contractor one year after Leon finished their deck to tear it down and replace it. The deck that Leon built for them ended up being a total disaster and our friends had to pay someone else to start over.
This man, Leon, belittled us along the way, often smirking his way through discussions with us and by the end of the project, we could not believe the level of contempt and disrespect he displayed toward us. We absolutely do not recommend this fellow to anyone. He is able to provide a good quote, in a timely fashion, but that is the only positive feedback we have about him.
